Smile Bed Size Question

We just bought a 2007 Keystone Montana 3400 RL. It had a Queen Sized bed in it, but because the brochure said "King Optional" we presumed that we would replace the Queen with a King. What we did wrong was order a regular King Memory Foam Mattress which turned out to be too wide. Accordingly, we are going to be nice parents and pass it along to our son, but we need to get another mattress for our bed. The Queen mattress was 80" long, but my husband and I are in disagreement about the length the King mattress needs to be. He says that because of the width and the location of the sink in the bedroom that we need to get the 72 wide by 78 long. I am of the opinion that because the 80" long worked on the Queen mattress, it will also work on the King mattress. Can anyone out there give us any information that will settle this argument? There are no floor plans that give the King bed dimensions. All it says is King Optional. I really do appreciate your help because I don't want to make another costly mistake.

Can't help with dimensions but here's another option you might consider. It's usually called an Olympic Queen and measures 66" wide X 80" long. We replaced our Queen with the Olympic Queen (sometimes called an Expanded Queen) due to not enough room for a King. Worked for us. BTW, we use King Flat sheets for top and bottom ... they are relatively cheap. We use Standard/Queen pillows and cases.

I have been to the Keystone site and even found a 2007 brochure but all it says is the King Bed is optional. It doesn't give any sizes.

You need to take into consideration the size of your platform. You can be a little longer or wider if the platform is the only consideration. Many MH's have 75 inch length on the mattress king or queen. You said it measured 80 so that should not be a problem. A standard Queen is 60 x 80, a California King is 72 x 84, a standard king is 76 x 80, do some careful measuring the 72x84 may be your best bet if you can get the platform width out to about 68 inches for decent edge support. Many times when a manf. offers a optional King you lose side cabinets to gain the width, good luck.

This thread is a heart-breaker. Here all along I thought we had a Queen bed in the MH (all beds we've had in our homes are King, so no frame of reference).

Well, measured the mattress and learned that it's 58"....what's that, a shorty Queen?

Oh well, goes to explain why we wake up with bruises whenever we go on the road

If 58" is the length I think that would be called a "Stubby"

Seriously, what is the other dimension (58" X ? ) ... ?

Are you sure someone didn't turn your mattress sideways?

Sounds to me like you and your husband need to decide.

heheehee, the length is 78". We could maybe go to 80, but the mattress would be touching the cabinets when the slide is in.

The 58" width is problematic, what with those cabinets on either side. I'll be out there working on a headlight switch and will do a closer inspection of the opportunities. If 60x80 is a standard size, then that should be my goal.

We have the 60x80 Queen and the mattress touches the cabinets when the slide is in. We have never considered that as a problem. Even the short queen would not leave enough room to squeeze through with the slide closed. We had a TT with a short queen previously, and, at 5'8" my feet sometimes hung over the end. No thanks!

We had this one in our previous coach, and home guest room, full king in our current coach. Good value, comes in 10" also for a little more, the foam will "scrunch" quit a bit if it contacts the cabinets, if it's a problem you can easily remove the cloth wrapper and use an electric knife to remove material. Beats paying more for a special smaller size.
