Big Rig 5'er???

So in looking up different campgrounds to stay at, I keep seeing the mention of the term "Big Rig." Can someone tell me what size 5er would be considered a big rig? I have a 2013 Keystone Alpine 3600 RS that the brochure states is 39' 2".

Anything above 30 ft on a truck and trailer seems pretty big to me; especially when it comes to maneuvering in close quarters.

Certain places call me big at 36 for the camper. When we got this unit we stayed the same length we had for multiple reasons. As it is we still do not fit in most of the older smaller campgrounds in the area.

So, my guess would be that this term is open to interpretation, but that in my case I think I qualify as my 5'er and truck come out to about 54'.

Big rig is not a standard term.
It is objective. To me a big rig is an 18 wheeler.

Big rig to me means they have trimmed trees to a min of 13' as most 35'+ motorhomes and trailers can be that high.
If they have gone thru that trouble to make a "big rig" fit I would also hope the access roads are not too narrow or turns not resricted by trees or other obstacles .

Yes, so I think for purposes of planning I should look for "big rig" locations first to avoid any clearance issues since my height is at 12' 8" in addition to the 54' foot overall length.

Yes it's a beauty, the fifth is 44 1/2 feet long, weighs 29,000 pounds. Big rigs are usually not a problem since most newer parks are used to and have been built to accommodate large fifths and motorhomes. Some older parks can be a "challenge" if you back-in skills are not yet fully "developed". I drew a crowd in this older park when I started backing in this 40 footer (from the "blind side").

The guy with the pickup offered to "move it", I told him it was OK where it was. But as you can see only the fifth could stay on the pavement, the truck had to be "squeezed" next to it and the awning could not be deployed.
Going to this Rally next week in Kansas,

lots of big fifths behind those boys.

hjsdds - Where does the family ride? Are all those semi tractors pulling fivers? Is that a club of class 7 owners? So many questions...
You need a bigger trailer by the way. It looks too small behind your truck! LOL

There are two bedrooms in that rig, the four children have the quad bunks bedroom in the rear (with their own bathroom in the middle of the room), the parents have the conventional forward bedroom.
Yes all of these trucks are pulling fivers, with an RV hitch.
The HDT (Heavy Duty Trucks) group has been around for about 10-15 years, there are by now probably 1,000-1,500 of these rigs converted to RV use and more are being converted every day. They have couple of Rallies every year (Kansas and Tennessee).

By the way before I converted that red Volvo I bought the truck for $27K (half the price of a new pickup), but it had 800,000 miles on it so it's not for those "faint of heart". If you want to learn more send me a message or an email, I'm always happy to "enlighten people" on the subject.
Oh, you don't need CDL to drive these converted trucks, I never had one.
