Used Turttle Wax brand Bug and Tar remover for lower areas without problems. Always worked great. So, with a heavy bug accululation on the front cap, dummy here, sprayed the stuff all over the cap. Bugs came off and so did the decals. A mess. Don't put that stuff near any decals. Do not repeat my mistake.

A really good wax job BEFORE your trip will also help to prevent them from sticking in the first place. Then use plenty of water and soap to clean the area as soon as possible after the trip.

Look at the brighter side. You have a nice clean surface on to which you can place your new decals. Hundreds out here have struggled with the gummy residue, and you by accident have discovered how to remove it.

I've heard (haven't tried) that dryer sheets with a little mild dish washing liquid does a good job.

I use mineral spirits...cheap...my decals are intact....does remove the wax job though.

I've used WD-40, but mostly use Thetford's Black Streak and
Bug Remover.

I agree 100%. I live in Florida where bugs on the front cap can do some real damage. Spot cleaning is the worst thing I've ever tried. Wax and then wash bugs off with soap and water.

I got this tip a year or so ago and mentioned it here in a thread active at that time. Someone replied that they had had a very bad experience doing that on full body paint Bug Removal with Dryer Sheets

so do some research and be careful using them.
