Can you tow behind a 5th wheel?
I'm looking at a 33 ft. 5th wheel and was wondering if I could tow an Element behind it.
Thanks!

Each state is different. Some require a Class A license, some have a total length limit. You have to check with the state you plan to double tow in. It isn't the same throughout the country.

I have seen many 5th wheels pulling fishing boats, golf cart & motor cycle trailers. If you have the correct hitch, it should work. Eddie Elk.

Double towing is not allowed in all states and most that do have max length restrictions. I double tow (boat or ATVs) behind the fiver in NM, AZ and CO. With the boat I'm 72', with the ATVs I'm 65'. 72' is over the max in the three states I tow in.

What would you be towing everything with? Also what is the need to do this? if you don't mine me asking.
Like others have said illegal in some states.
I see people towing boats etc.. but I sure wouldn't want to find a gas station or ever have to back up.

In addition to road laws, driver's license laws, you have to worry about the hitch on the fifth wheel. You can't just bolt one on. I would have it welded with LOTS of bracing to the frame, by someone who has insurance AND knowledge.

Every double tow I've seen out west looked overloaded GCWR wise. Looks unsafe.

It does look different to see a double tow......I can't do it as my rear bumper extends out to allow for storage of bikes and such....and I think the max weight is 200 lbs on my rear bumper. I don't even like the spare tire on the rear bumper...

The towed vehicle could put your pin over it's rating. Could put your hitch over rating. Could put your truck over it's rating. Could get stopped and have to unhook. Lots of reasons not to. Could likely, if first items are satisfied get away with a boat, atv. Another vehicle would get Leo's attention.

It's legal in some states, but illegal in most.
Even where it is legal, it is usually restricted to certain highways and times of day.
