CAT Scale

Well guys I went to get weighed today, and I did a dumb dumb. Had both of my truck axles on one scale and my 5th wheel on another. Apparently that’s not the right setup. Can I make Any assumptions based on these weights

Steer axle 8920lb
Drive axle 6900lb

Gross weight 15820

Thanks guys

If your actual weighing was today, you should be able to go back and reweigh (within 24 hours) properly for just a couple of bucks.

You should have your steer axle on one scale your truck rear axle on another and your trailer on the largest. You will get a breakdown of steer axle , drive axle and trailer axle. At the bottem of the ticket will be the combined wt of all 3 . Shown as gross wt. Just look at the scale and you will see the three platforms. You were just sitting on two l imagine.

Looks to me the only assumption is that your setup weighs 15820 as it sits. Not sure how they came up with axle numbers if all were on the same platform...

Kind of what I was afraid of... so it’s safe to say that the 8920 is my truck with the hitch weight from the 5th wheel? If so, Ouch

I can't make any sense out of what it says--if 8920 is the truck + pin weight, then weight on axles of fiver is the 6900. You must have a smaller fiver? Assume 6900 is 80% of the fiver weight, puts it around 8650--that is a smalllll fiver.
You really, really need to re-weigh with the truck front axle on one section, the rear axle on the second platform, and the trailer wheels on the third platform. Depending on your wheelbase, you MIGHT be able to position the setup so the front legs of the fiver will also be on the very front of the third section. If you can position this way--get a weight with the legs of the fiver up, then carefully lower the legs til they just take weight off the hitch, and get another weight. Now, you will have all the numbers you need. Failing to be able to set the axles just right, you will need to weigh everything and then go drop the trailer and re-weigh the truck only.
Its not too big a hassle, just need to pick a time the trucks aren't lined up to weigh.

I've never weighed any of my 5vers. But about a hundred years ago I drove trucks for a living. 3 axle tractor and a 48' trailer, when ever I weighed at a private scale are a CHP weigh station, I always weighed one axle at a time and then did the math. The way your all describing is completely different. Did something change?

Yeah, A few things have changed in 100 years

https://catscale.com/how-to-weigh/

and reweighs are just a couple of bucks within 24 hours, if not what's another $10 if you own an rv

while the 8920 tells you the truck weight and the hitch weight, you can't get axle weights from it.

but the 6900 is your rv's weight less the portion on the hitch...
best just to go back and weigh it with each axle on 3 different scales

Do a reweigh, weight the combo, go drop the trailer in the lot, go back and weigh the tractor, that will give you the individual unit weights, On your 1st weigh be sure that you are positioned correctly on the axle pads, same on 2nd weigh, that way you'll also get your pin weight.

You are going to have to go weigh the truck.

You have 2 useful numbers now.

Truck and Trailer is 15,820 and of that 6,900lbs is on the trailer wheels.

Once you weigh the truck alone (say it weighs 8k) you will then know the weight of the truck and if you subtract the truck weight from the 8,920lbs - 8,000 that says you have 920lbs down on the pin. Also add the 920 to 15,820 and your trailer weighs 16,740.

Pay after but they won't let you see the numbers without payment.

A truck and fifth wheel should fit on all three scales at a Cat Weigh Station. My 30' Class A which has a wheel base of 15 3/4' and I can get the axles on two different scales with the car I tow on the third.

gentilebrian,
Can't go with your math--if everything weighs 15820--gross--how do you come up with a trailer weight higher than the combination of the truck and trailer?
And a 16740 fiver with a 920 pin?
