Ceiling Fabric

In my quest to renovate a old Teton and bring it up yo date , this weekend I was explaining this journey to relatives while standing inside of the living quarters and one of the first questions that I always get is how I am going to replace the ceiling material?
I always see this as a small problem and haven't given it much attention.
But in the next month I will be putting the slideout back in and the ceiling must be done for that reason. As I dug into it , it seems to be a heavy material, in a off white color with a 1/4 inch foam backing pressed to a paneling or plywood . The original construction has the walls on clamping it as a mobile home does. I wish to cut along that area and remove 100% of it and change the square fluorescent 12 volt lighting to 12 volt LED . Leaving a much smaller hole.
My question is? Has anyone done this? Do you have a technique to do this?
It must look as original or I just wont be happy .

I haven't done this type of updating, but have one suggested approach. Remove the fabric and foam only and scrap the plywood to a clean, level surface. Pre-build replacement panels using new 1/8 lauan plywood, foam and fabric. You can cut each panel to fit around overhead cabinets, etc prior to putting the foam and fabric on. Use spray adhesive for the foam and fabric. Then attach each panel to the existing panels with construction adhesive.

I've had good results with construction adhesive, there are some "instant grab" waterproof types at HD and Lowes that dry clear, intended to attach shower enclosures to studs or sheetrock. For vertical applications, no temporary bracing is needed, but you certainly will need bracing for overhead installation. And you may need to use the strongest adhesive available regardless of cure time. Just use a very smooth flowing type.

Finally, you will need 'H' trim at panel edges and small crown molding at the sidewalls.

mine way falling down i pulled it all down and cut where i could not get to
cleaned roof area then taped and papered all upper cab. walls ect. and
used a heavy duty spray glue and sprayed roof and fabric and installed
i cut fabric 4'' bigger 2'' per side and used a plastic [ thing used to spread
bondo ] to push fabric in behind walls . cab. ect. i used a microfiber fabric
went from gray to light brown came out very nice i put the wood molding
back up . but am planning to remove and cover them in same fabric
before and after pictures also did the bedroom and dinning room walls
