Hey everyone, me again in search of some more! I am learning so much, but still a little confused one one thing. So we all know now that the previous owner switched the 30 amp cord out for a 20 amp house plug cord. I haven't had the money to get a new cord and probably won't until after I take this trailer I have had for 3 years out for its maiden voyage (400 mile round trip) to the Green River Utah for a week at the end of April. So on that note, in order to charge the batteries would it be best to just plug the trailer 20 amp cord to the generator or bring a battery charger and hook it up to the gen to the batteries?

You will still charge while plugged in to a 20amp outlet, but running your AC will be a little iffy when you use the microwave, coffee maker, etc. Plugging into the outlet allows you to use your 120v, but using a charger only allows you to use your DC stuff.

You will get a much faster/more complete charge using a 120volt charger off the generator then running the gen thru the trailer converter. If you don't already have the charger, get a nice one that has stepped charging (fast, then slower, then maintain). I have a Schumacher digital display that has served me well.

IMHO I would plug the unit in at your house for the next few days and see that the converter charges the battery. You'll want to run the refrigerator, furnace and water pump as well. Better to find out what's not working in your driveway than when you're three miles past Bugtussle . . .
The 120 vlot charger will charge the battery faster but I'd feel more confident checking all of the RV systems at home.
