Recently read an artical in Trailer Life or Highways mag on cleaning the roof. Also in Trailer's Life repair manual it's recommended. My rig is an 05 that I've owned for 2 yrs now. I've been on the roof repairing the vent and it is dirty up there. I'm hesitant to clean it, only because spraying water on the roof dosen't seem like a good idea. I currently don't have any leaks when it rains, but then it dosen't rain much in AZ. Not too sure what damage a little dust on top can do. Is this a maintenance item I should take serious, or just let it be? The soap for this is $18 for a quart size bottle at the RV store. Is there an altenative soap that can be used.

If your roof is a rubber roof you can use anything that is not petroleum based. It is recommended that you inspect your roof for any abnormalities on a monthly basis. I generally clean mine twice a year. I use Dicor Roof-Gard Rubber Roof Cleaner and Protectant. You can get it at Camping World.

Not to worry about spraying water on the roof. It is not too much different than a heavy rain. Actually, better to find an issue when spraying water that you can turn off rather than waiting for a rain storm where you cannot turn the water off.

I am sure you will get other responses with other products, so stay tuned.

You don't need any special, expensive, product to clean your roof. Spic 'n Span or Dawn will work just as well. Use 303 Aerospace Protectant afterward as a UV protectant.
