Comments on Pro Series sliding fifth wheel hitch, pros/cons

Needing any information from users on the Pro Series sliding fifth wheel hitch, for my brother who just purchased a Ford F250 diesel with a the short bed on it to pull his 36' (maybe could be 38' not sure) 5th wheel trailer.
Any comments after using it, pros or cons? If you are using it now would you purchase it again for your fifth wheel?

Appreciate any information or suggestions.

I have a Reese 15K Pro Series hitch with a tube sliders. I don’t like the single slide bar that locks the hitch pin in place. I suggest the larger head with dual jaws. Also, mine originally came with the square tube sliders. The slider lock pins kept popping out of the rails allowing the trailer to slide while I was towing! Not a pleasant experience. After complaining to Reese, they sent me a set of tube sliders that included a pin to keep the locking handle in place. The tab that is welded to the release arm where the padlock is installed bent while towing in the mountains. I had a friend run another weld bead for reinforcement. Bottom line, there are better 5th wheel hitches available. Mine came with my first fiver .

That is a very big 5th wheel for a 3/4 ton truck. Tell him to check his actual weights very carefully. The dealer will always say you are good to tow anything on the lot.

I'm afraid that i'm not much help on this but I can tell you if you have a sliding hitch make sure it is automatic because otherwise you will not use it. Personal experience on this.

I had one for 10 years until it wore out. For the last couple of years it was getting harder and harder to release the hitch from the tow position to the maneuver position. Sometimes the hitch would not release at all. Will I replaced the Reese Pro Slide hitch last year with a 18K Demco Auto Glider hitch. This was the best decision for my needs with my Dodge/Ram Mega Cab Short bed truck.

Now would I buy a Reese pro slider hitch again. Yes, if I was on a very low income fixed budget. It is a good hitch for the price.

Although an auto slider hitch will remove all of the worries out maneuvering with the trailer attached. You do not need to get out of the truck to release the hitch from tow to maneuver position which is nice if it is raining out.

My Demco Auto Glide does not need that additional expense of a capture plate that is required with a Pullrite hitch.

That is why I went to the Demco Auto Glide hitch one last thing to buy capture plate and keep.
