Covered Storage

Just wondering how many folks have covered storage for their 5ver? I've read and seen what the constant sun can do to our rubber roofs, paint jobs, etc... I just contracted to have a pole barn built in my back yard. 16x40' min height 15'5" 6x6s, stick built rafters, tin roof. Plan to have 50amp plug added when complete.

For those with shelters, any tips.tricks before I build this one. Thanks, happy and safe camping.

I have the same set-up that you are having built, except mine is aluminum. The previous 5er was 35 feet and fit with a few feet extra at each end. The new one is 41 feet and the front cap hangs out a bit. Depending on your length, you may want to add some "just in case room"

I would have water and a dump nearby also if you can manage it. When we built our house 12 years ago we had a 30' fiver and built just a parking pad next to my shop building. I had the water and sewer dump run at the same time as the house was being built. When the inspector asked what it was I told him. He said no it isn't, it's a clean out. I said my mistake, that is exactly what it is.

Over time we went to a 39' diesel pusher so I came off the shop with a roof to cover it. Next came walls and a 14' wide garage door so now the whole thing is enclosed. It is 18 x 40 so plenty big for our 35' fiver we have now. Having the dump and water makes life a lot easier not having to worry about finding a place when we get home.

We have had several rv's thru the years and a cover does make a difference. They are much easier to keep clean and maintain. Plus, when it comes time to sell I think you can get a better price for it. When we sold our motorhome 2 years ago I got my asking price of close to high retail because the folks that bought it said they had not found anything in as good condition as ours was.

As mo5er said I built an aluminum building for my first 5er which was 36 ft. Two years later we upgraded to a 41 ft fiver and had to enlarge the building which was a bit of a hassel matching color's etc. My advice is to build the building as it keep your rig looking new for many years but always go a little larger because if you are like most of us you will upgrade sooner or later and bigger is better.

Thanks for the tips. Current 5ver is only 34' so I have ample room now. I have room that I could expand at a later date ( would just need to clear some land). Just wife and I so room is not really a problem, but I know exactly what you are talking about ( I went through that with boats). I did talk with contractor and it would be easy to add another section up to about 12'. Construction is coming along, should be completed tomorrow.

Will have power and water, will not have any capability for "clean out". Worst case a buddy does have a 40 go clean out tank (mobile). Still have some landscaping to correct ( stumps) but rv should be under shelter by the end of the week.
