Wouldn't be without cruise, if it breaks its going to get fixed. If I can't get it fixed then I'll buy another truck. That's how much I like my cruise!

I would sometimes tow at night because far less traffic. I was towing 800 miles. I used cruise control probably 600 or the 800 miles.
On long trips on flat land, sure I use it.
I do not, can not use it in the mountains in the east.

Have a Ford and use it on hiway all the time flat or hills in the tow/haul mod it keeps my speed constant. The only time I don't use it if the weather is bad snow or bad rain.

I don't use it in bad weather. Otherwise I use it all the time. And I have lots of torque.
If the tranny is gear hunting I would turn it off.

Never heard that one before. I use ours most of the time on at highway speed with Tow/Haul engaged. Otherwise, I find myself getting up too much speed to be safe. Usually cruise at 62-65mph. On climbs, twisty roads, towns and bad weather I want to be in control.
On step drops I use the exhaust brake and down sift as required to maintain a comfortable speed, very rarely touch the service brakes on the big downhills.

Back in the old days, they (I haven't a clue who "they" are) used to say don't run on cruise when towing/pulling a load. No idea why they used to say that. Must be new electronic technology, cause everybody does it nowadays, and I even think it says it's ok in my manual.

Same here, and going up hills is so much easier. Also the more you use the cruise control the better MPG you get. Plus I had my right knee replacement, cruise control is the only way I can give my knee a break without stopping and getting out.

My Ford control holds the speed very close even up and down grades. 2016 F350.

Spot on. Same thing I do in my 2016 F350.

The reason for the advice not to use it comes from the OD gear not designed to handle the tourqe when under load (i.e towing or a heavy load in the box). Using cruise under load with the OD on will also cause your transmission to hear up and over time shorten its life before major repairs. If your truck has a tow/haul button and you engage that you are fine. What that does is lock out the OD so you avoid this problem. The only time i ever use my cruise when towing was on a flat or downhill section of road and even on the flat road, only if there was no big head wind. Ive owned about a dozen different pick ups (Ford, GM, Dodge) and same applied to all of them. Ive also fixed and replaced a number of those trucks transmissions over the years and learned this lesson the hard way! 😎
