Custom 5th Wheel Manufacturer

Sooo, after comparing two 5th wheels on the dealer lot, and neither of them being EXACTLY what we were needing, I decided to take a peek at custom 5th wheels. I contacted Terry from North American Rv in Indiana, and we exchanged several emails, and low and behold i found a floor plan that was spot on. Then I asked for a rough estimate to build. When I saw the price of less than 70k for a custom 52' fiver, I was stunned. My question... Have any of ya'll heard of this company? Are they reputable? TIA!

LOL! I know! Everything was looking good until I got the quote. Im a firm believer in, 'If it looks too good to be true, it probably is', but I havent really looked into custom before. When I questioned them on it, they said they cut out the dealers, that is why it is so much cheaper.

Cutting out the dealers would save a lot. However price out a Luxe. They have opted to now omit the dealer and factory order only. Compare their pricing for similarly equipped. JMHO

Cut out the dealers and save $, but where do you go for warranty or repair?

Check out Spacecraft for a truly custom trailer.. Well built trailers at fair prices.

Is Luxe a manufacturer? And I did visit the Spacecraft website, but it wasn't very user friendly. Maybe I should give them a call. The look of the Spacecraft, did appear to be a better quality. Also, a warranty of course would be nice, but we had rather have a functional fifth wheel, and use our emergency fund if we had too for repairs. Also, on some of the threads, I have found that with particular manufacturers, the warranty process can be quite daunting.

I would rather deal with a company that makes great trailer than a great website. It is under rebuild.

Spacecraft can build on a commercial trailer chassis or they have a custom chassis. It is a double level chassis that provides a storage space virtual the entire size of the trailer.

Marsha Trautman, the owner, is very good to work with.

One of the features I like about Spacecraft trailers ais that the wheels are in fiberglassed wheelwell. The bottom of slides are not used as the tops of wheelwells.

Spacecraft does not force predefined interior trim. You can even have painted walled.

If cost is no issue, then Continental Coach has no comparison.

Dale & Mark, I have to agree about the website vs. great manufacturer. I just wasn't familiar with them and couldn't very much information from the website. I will absolutely give her a call on monday. And that Continental Coach is beautiful, but I do have a budget in place of about 180,000 combined for truck and trailer. I'm looking for more functionality & durability, than luxury. Don't get me wrong, luxury is always a bonus, but I have patiently waited a while for a RV that I didn't have to rip the dinette out of

I suggest a fiver with a small rear garage for an economical car. It's a real booger to drive and park a monster truck in town.

For 10 years we have towed a car behind our 40' trailer. We are over-length but have only been stopped once.

For 6 months we used the Volvo VNL770 as our only vehicle, shopping, touristing, etc. But having a car does make things easier.
