My kindness cost me damage to my day/night shade in the rear of my 06 Mountaineer 5er.
We let my bro in law and his family stay in it for 6 days while visiting us from Florida and after they left we discovered our largest shade in the back window has a tear about 1-2 inches, horizontally from the left edge. It must have been forced down hard because the plastic retainer cap was off under a chair and the day shade was displaced to the left by about 3 inches! Is there any way to repair this tear without replacing the whole unit? We are fortunate because the window treatment hides most of the rip and is only visible if you look for it. I don't want it to progress so I have to repair it before more damage is done if possible. Please help! Thanks!

Ouch! We had a similiar problem with a smaller dinnette shade. The cap came off when lowering, and it ripped. It was still under warranty, so the dealer replaced it. I'm not sure that it can be repaired. Are you still under warranty? We love the shades, but we don't used them as much as we'd like because they are so fragile. Keep us updated with your repair options, and good luck.

I haven't. I am a little reluctant to because it is obvious misuse that caused this damage. It was forced pretty good to cause this damage and there really isn't any way to explain it any other way than how it happened.

You might try to find someone who has a sewing machine and do a tear repair stitch on it. I have a Husquavarna machine that has that stitch. You might try going to a Joann Fabrics where they sell the machine and see if anyone working in there or a customer who does sewing for people would be willing to repair it for you. It would only take a few minutes and all you would have to do is remove it and reinstall it. Might be worth a try.

When ours tore, we were pulling it down and the plastic piece popped off the bottom causing the shade part to come out resulting in the tear. It was a manufacturing defect in the shade. I'm not suggesting that you attempt to defraud in order to get you shade replaced, but how do you know for sure that your shade didn't suffer a similiar failure? Just a thought.

To help your shade go up & down easier apply a hard soap bar to strings just remove excess soap with finger.

UPDATE!
I told my dealer what happened and they said it is covered under warranty and he ordered me a new one. Thanks for the advice and other tips folks, yer the best!

Updated Update!
Camping season is almost over in the northeast so I got my 5ver into the dealer to take care of some small issues, the shade being one of them. I left the rig overnight and they fixed everything under warranty and to my satisfaction. I sent a nice email to the service department and told them great job!
Their reply was that they never hear good job that much from customers. I'm a happy camper!
