Dometic microwave died!

We experienced a power outage at our park in Deming NM. Although we have a surge protector and no problems with anything else when the power went back on, our Dometic microwave oven burned out. When the tech checked it out, it seems that the circuit board was the problem. Dometic does not sell replacement boards. Apparently this item is a "throw away" for the landfill! Our question is this: Does anyone have a comment on this problem relating to the replacement? Is Dometic the only microwave recommended for an RV (our Newmar Cypress fifth wheel was bought new in April 2005 and we are fulltimers)? Would a conventional microwave from Walmart or Best Buy work as well?

Yes, However mounting some models may require fabrication of special brackets.

just a thought same happened to me a while back i didnt have anyone look at i pulled it out (find hidded screws i had to remove vent a hood)
camping world had a replacement with hardware for about $150
it is a little heavy you might need help to get it down.
any way i decided to remove back of the microwave and there was a fuse in sight it was blown radio shack had them worked fine. hope you are lucky

Some of the ovens have a buss type fuse on the circuit board also. Some thing to check before tossing it. I replaced mine with a nice micro convection that we use all the time. Less heat generated than the conventional oven. Had to re work the trim and install more insulation with an added vent. Ordered one through JC Penny that was the right size.

Try turning off the breakr and then turning it back on. I did this with a MW at home and has worked fine since.

If the small glass fuse is really good, and board is bad, like technician said; replacement is a solution. Our Dometic microwave quit, and I found a local appliance dealer that had saved a scratchNdent Dometic. I bought the components needed for <$50, repaired the oven.
If you desire a new oven, most any wall-mount microwave of the same configuration and measurements will work. They all come with a baseplate.

This is of no help to you. Sorry. But we just had to replace our microwave. Magic Chef. The off the rack units would not fit our 5vr. So we ordered one from Forest River. $256.00 including shipping. At least it fit perfectly. The other one was used for 7 years so I think we got our money's worth. Hope your was not too new.
