Even More Problems With Our Montana

2017 Montana 3730FL bought new March last year. Lived in the rig for a year in Las Vegas. Now in Austin, Texas. It rained today, we've been in rain before with no problems, but today it started leaking around the a/c return vent. The one over the bed of course. We have "whisper quiet" air conditioners in this rig, they are ducked throughout the coach with 4 air return vents, 2 in the bedroom, 2 in the living area. I removed the filter from the leaking one and looked inside the vent. It was full of water. That is the ceiling of the bedroom. I'm surprised it hasn't soaked through.
Not sure how the vents are connected to the a/c or how you get to them without taking down the ceiling. But this one is leaking big time. RV repair guy coming tomorrow. Hopefully, it won't rain anymore tonight. I think this rig is cursed!!!

Should be a quick repair for the tech.

The leak may be caused by a loose ac mounting, or a failed Dicor seal somewhere in the vicinity.

Our last trailer did the same thing. Tightened up the 4 AC bolts 1 turn each, cleared the clogged drain holes in the AC pan, and resealed around the flange on the roof with Dicor. Leak stopped.

On my Crossroads, which we full-time in...the a.c. unit is bolted down with 4 lag bolts, into the thin plywood roofing. After seeing that. I'm going too install a couple more. Just last week I saw a a.c. unit along the highway. Some unlucky RVer was in for a big surprise.

Turned out to be an easy fix, just a clogged drain. Thing is, just a month ago I had Camping World service my a/c units ($350). One would think they would have cleaned the drains during their service. Just about had it with Camping World.

I find the Cramping World techs to be all over the map.

One place their thorough, the next totally incompetent.

I do not shop there or have my trailer serviced there.

In an emergency, maybe. Doubt it though.

Go back to the camping world store that service your trailer and see if they will reimburse you for this cost. Also send a letter to Trailer Life asking for their help if camping world turns you down. I would also register a complaint with the BB in the are of that store. May not help you but it does not hurt to advertise this issue with CCW.

Bill, I would be interested in seeing what they actually DID for the $350.00!

Right off hand, and at a MINIMUM, I would think their list would include:

  1. ensure condensate drain was clear
  2. clean evaporator coils
  3. check condition of seals
  4. check/replace filters
  5. test differential temps

I think you got stiffed personally, it sounds like CW just waved the work order in the general direction of your RV, waited the prerequisite 6 hours for a two hour job, and billed you the $350.00.

Did they even take the shroud off of the AC units?
