Extended Warranty

We are looking at buying a new 2016 Lifestyle which has no manufacturer warranty seeing how they are now out of business. We have searched all the forums and are still up in the air about what extended warranty to go with. The dealer we are dealing with is offering us a 1 year Extra Ride warranty. Other dealers are offering Compass. We found a company called Wholesale Warranties and they sound as good as Extra Ride and Compass. All three are have different pricing but from what we can tell the coverage is mostly the same. However Extra Ride is almost double the cost of the two, so what are we missing?? We have not found any company that covers the frame but we are not sure what could go wrong with the frame.

What we would like to know is what are your thoughts and experiences with having an extended warranty and what company you are using? We have never bought an extended warranty on anything before because we do not necessarily think they are worth the money, but we do not feel comfortable buying a orphan unit without something.

From my Class A days I can tell you that many folks swear by Wholesale Warranty. I had Cornerstone and would not recommend them to anyone. Don't have one on my HitchHiker so don't know about one on a 5r. I do like the fact that the factory is still there but operating as Kansas RV center instead of a manufacturer. I can still get service and parts from them. Good luck.

Good Sam and Coach-net are other warranty companies. Most go beyond factory warranty. I am not sure the details on an RV without factory warranty. I imagine pretty costly as all the problems are usually uncovered in the first year of ownership.

Just keep in mind, that many items carry factory warranties of their own. For example, your TV's, microwave, Refrigerator, etc. will all have warranties of their own. The manufacturer warranty only covers things they actually made like the walls, etc. The extended warranty goes beyond that and helps you have one place to turn when there is a problem. However, any "authorized" service center (aka reputable RV dealer) can service any item under warranty through an individual manufacturer. You will have the best luck with repairs by having a good relationship (ex. Purchasing from) your local dealer.

I purchased cornerstone extended warranty. I purchased it for 1800 us dollars. Cornerstone has paid out over $9000.00. I'm sold.

Ask your dealer to commit to giving you one or two years' coverage in their shop for adjustments. Most service contracts will not cover adjustments.

Before we're done, we'll have several thousand $$ into what our service contract co. considers adjustments to our slides. You might want to check the Carriage/Lifestyle forum for more info.
