Hi,
Since we've only had our 5'er out a few times and it is just 'starting' to get hot down here, I was
wondering how many have a problem with a lot of heat coming from your sunlight in your shower area? I noticed it was ALOT this past weekend!
I wanted to block it off during the day when are
aren't using it - maybe even at night to keep some
light out in case we get a 'sucky' camp site with a light next to us.
Any suggestions? I was looking for something like a foam insert or maybe some insulation type stuff to reflect the sun light back up - any idea where I can get something like that?

The shades are great for the light, however they will not stop much of the heat from entering your RV. I have two of the rectangular skylights in my unit so I came up with this solution.

Take some 3" thick cushion foam (local fabric store like Joan's or Michael's) and cut it to fit snugly in the opening of the skylight. Now cut down some reflective foil (local hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe's) to fit the top and spray glue on. You are now ready to push it up into the skylight opening, voila, no more light or heat penetration.

FYI, use a cheap electric steak knife to cut the foam with.

Since you have to buy these items in larger quantities then the project requires it is a little pricey unless you can use the left overs for some other projects.

Well,I think I can handle the second solution.

Something even I can do by myself - except for
the measuring - gotta get the hubby to do that part.

Just want to resolve this BEFORE Memorial weekend when we are going to Curry Hammock in the Keys!

my wife did the same thing and then covered the foil stuff in a woodsy pattern with bears and deer on it, to carry the cedar creek theme, and she sewed small eyelets on then to hook around the screw heads in the shower.
she also made some nice ones for the bedroom small windows cause i like to sleep late

I did the same. I guess my velcro tape lost it's stickiness, because the tape keeps coming loose from the plastic frame. Wonder how spray glue would work on the tape?

We used a truck/car windshield shade cut to the correct shape. Attach it with the super velcro, and wallah, your heat/light troubles are gone. I know ours are.

I use sheet styrofoam about 2 inches thick purchased from Home Depot it has alum foil on one side which I face down for looks. Cut it to fit snug and it will stay up. I used this for the shower and all vent openings during hot summer and cold winter...

Well,
Everything was working great in that bathroom skylight til the ALL day 90 degree kept hitting
it and it fell down. That double-sided velcro tape just ain't cutting it!.
Maybe I'll super glue the velcro to the skylight plastic - then it will work!

I tried most of the aforementioned tricks and finally got tired of it and took the inner fixture out spray painted the inside of the outer bubble with three coats of Krylon Fusion white spray paint (sticks to plastic) making sure the trailer was opened up to reduce the paint fumes.

Removed the inside bubble from the mount and replaced with a flat piece of 1/8 inch clear plexiglas gluing it to plastic fixture with adhesive caulk. I used decorative film (left over piece from doing the entry door glass) and covered the 1/8 in plexiglas on the top side so it will be protected from the water & vapor in the shower.

Replaced the inner plastic fixture and job finished. Will add a pic tomorrow.

They make larger velcro strips, which are
white, and I might just try them.
