Fifth wheel hitch

I have a B&W hitch rated for 16K to haul my fifth wheel. My fifth wheel is 12734 dry and 16070 GVWR. Should I look at purchasing a larger hitch or will the hitch I have work just fine? I don't plan on having my tanks full while traveling, so I should be well under 16k lbs.

Thanks Brian

Call B&W as I think you can replace the base and raise the rating.,not a complete hitch.
I am of the mindset to have more hitch than the gvwr of the 5er.If you never load it up your ok but that one time near gross you'll be glad to have more hitch.

I had a 16K hitch fail. It over powered the slider. I was able to keep it under control and ended up in a lot safely where I reset the hitch. Reese replaced it with a 18K hitch with many refinements. That being said if I ever get a new hitch in will be 20K or better.

I guess the question is would you purchase and use a ladder that is rated at 200 lbs if you weighed 200 lb?

B&W hitches are very underrated! When testing they go way beyond what the others do when testing. I have spoken to them asking why this is and they just like having a larger safety factor.

So I would not worry about it one bit!

My Companion in my 11 RAM Dually was rated at 18K and our 36' MS started at 18K but increased with time to 20K and had no ill effects.

If you were talking REESE, Valley or the like I would tell you get a heavier rated hitch for sure!
