First Time Out - Tool Suggestions.
All right!!! Here we go...
Really excited to take the fiver out for the first time this Friday to a local lake/campground! I have spent the last month replacing brakes, bearings, fixing small issues and making sure all the systems are working and safe.
I have a tool bag ready to go with all the standard stuff, and specific tools for bigger jobs, tire changes, etc. but am looking for suggestions on the weird stuff.
What are some tools that you never thought you would need, but are glad you took with you?
Thanks!
-Pete

Pete: I noticed many of the RVers have a little 12v test light tool (circuit tester). I carry a cheap volt ohm meter....and it comes in handy.... Next... a level.... You would be surprised at how many times you want to level your rig and use one (I carry two 99 cent bullet levels from Harbor freight).... 30 feet of jumper wire....I keep 30 feet of a lite gauge wire in my kit in case I have to make a long jumper.... little compressor is another item I keep in the rig with a tire fill gauge and blower nozzle.. I like to have a battery operated drill...I use it and my dremel all the time for many uses. I think that is about all the non normal items you might find on my traveler.

Congrats hope you have a great trip. A multimeter and some extra twelve volt wire can be pretty handy for tracking down and fixing electrical issues.

Added to what has been mentioned--I take a Craftsman 19-volt drill/driver +impact wrench that have proved to be very helpful for me and many others. The LI-ion battery really holds a charge for a long time. I also have a couple jack stands and a floor jack for working underneath.

One of my first outings in our new rig had us camped at the Hospital's RV park for 8 days watching over a family member in ICU. I spent some of the time that week hitting a nearby Harbor Frieght store and assembling a dedicated toolbox to stay in the RV.
Test light, VOM, compact socket set, small screwdriver set, ratcheting screwdriver handle with mega-bit assortment, 2 small cresent wrenches, pliers, dikes, needle noses, channel locks, vise grips, LED fashlight, razor knife and a stubby hammer that will all fit into the box.
It stays under the sink in the RV at all times and has come in handy for something on most every trip.

All good stuff, thanks guys! Hadn't thought about an air source... Good idea! I'm sure I'll have to fix one of the kids bike tires eventually, or blow up an air mattress, etc.

A small supply of good quality garden hose washers, in case the one inside your hose connector gets lost or goes bad.
An assortment of screws and nails (you never know when you'll need them)
Small set of 3M electrical connectors and crimping pliers

Just a thought...Costco sells a set of eNelope NiCad rechargeble AAA, AA batteries with a charger. I've been using them for a while and like them. You can get plastic sleeves so they can be used in C and D cell apps.
