Hi Joe:
I just recently, sanitized our unit. Went pretty smoothly. We bought our unit late last year and didn't get to use it much. I did detect odors from time to time in it, but I thought the odors were coming from the holding tanks. I found out in April, that the odors were coming from the fresh water tank. Same thing as you, poured a cup of water and wow. The odor was getting pretty bad. I checked the manual, and added bleach to the tank. I went a little heavier on the bleach than was called for, though. All you have to do is pour your bleach into the freshwater tank, and fill the tank with fresh water. The strenghth is up to you, but you can check your manual for guidence. Most say 1/4 cup, per 15 gallons of water. Then run the pump and open the faucets until you can smell the bleach coming out of each faucet. Shut off the faucets and let the mixture stand in the pipes. Again, the lenghth of time it sits in the pipes is up to you. After you let it sit, dump the fresh water tank, fill with fresh water, and flush the mixture out of the pipes. We did ours in the morning, and left to visit the area. We returned in the late afternoon. The mixture sat about 7 hours. Worked like a charm. I also flushed the fresh water tank a few more times. When I was checking it ou before we bought it, there was water that was left in the tank that the dealer didn't bother to drain. Who knows how long the water had been in there. Also with a used unit, you never know how the unit was maintained, so it is best to start fresh with everything. Hope this helped.......Steve
