We have recently purchased a Travel Supreme Express 1997 model 5th wheel rlss33. Everything seems to have been cared for well. However the fridge Royale Domestic model RM3862 does not work. I have no idea when it last worked. It appears as tho there were considerable additional fans added (they look like computer fans) I have NO plans on moving this RV, so my question--
What is involved in pulling out the dysfunctional multi-powered fridge and replacing with an apartment-sized 110 fridge?
I tried to understand why it didn't work, the 12 volt & the 110 outlets are hot. I suspect it has been stored a LONG time and has just became decrepit.
I have no experience repairing and/or replacing this type of item and don't want this nice RV to be cobbled and trashed.
Does it take an expert to pull the old and install the new? My major concern is the power and gas supplies. Please advise and be specific.Thank you

If the inside of the two compartments are in decent shape and the door hinges are solid with good looking door seals, I would replace the cooling unit with an Amish Heavy Duty built cooling unit along with a new Dinosaur Control Board.

If you want to replace it with an apartment size fridge then use the AJMadison web site to look for one that will fit into the space where the Dometic RM3862 sits now. You can search by size.

It takes someone who knows what to do to remove it.
Make sure you have room to pull it out the entry door as well.

There are LP connections, 12V, and both of those need to be properly secured and checked for leaks.

OK, the fridge has been removed and replaced with a 110V. I had a pro do the job, but it was pretty much straight-forward logic. The lines to be capped were obvious. I am glad I had it done by someone who knew the ropes, but I could have done it. However I could NOT have carried that 143 lb fridge out the door. The 2 men accomplished with ease. Thank you for the advice; mission accomplished.

Tell us what you had installed for a residential?

Great job!

If I had the time and the help with carrying the weight I would have tackled the job too but when the coach is your home you need the fridge NOW.

Mine was out and the new one in the same day with some cleanup work the next morning.

I had the fridge replaced with a Magic chef 4.5 cu ft model. It is considerably shorter, but the "installer" made a shelf above the new fridge. The ventilation chimney still unobstructed. I'm putting in a wire shelf system to keep anyone from occluding the vent. Now, I just have to find doorrs. Gonna try Home Depot, etc for doors & hinges. Opening is 24 x 17. Hoping to install 2 12" doors. We'll see what we can find and/or make.
