I love that these come as 120/240 systems. It's something that's bugged me about the propane gens used in 5ers. I'll chase this one down but will they fit in the same space as the 6500 ones you normally in RVs if one wanted to retrofit one?

I have a new MS on order that will be delivered later this month. I ordered it with the regular 6500. Somewhere along the way I mentioned on a forum I would be able to run the 240 dryer that was coming in the new MS. Someone said not so fast Grasshopper the 6500 gen is 120 only! and suggested this model.

I contacted Alicia at Rolling Retreats and said I wanted the 120/240 model this was after I contacted Cummins/Onan in Elkhart Indians and they said it would work no problem. DRV said they could not allow the install of the 240V model because they have to go thru a lot of testing to confirm something would work. I even said I would sign a waiver but no go. So Alicia said Slade her husband that services the RV's at their dealership would install what I wanted.

So to answer your question yes it's exactly the same gen only it's 120/240.

I guarantee in the future this will be an option or standard on DRV's with the 6500 gen.

Wouldn't it be easier to wire a 50 amp shore cord? I'm no electrician so if 220 is not possible in an RV I will just keep my mouth shut.😂

If that's a QG, than where do you plan to install the gas tank? Am very interested in having an onboard genny but the fuel source is still a very big source of debate.

I found the spec sheets. I think the 6500 version only comes as LP since it has been derated.

On my 07.5 36SB3 I have over 5K pin already. It won't add too much probably 150#. I have 6K+ capacity so it will be fine.

It is lighter than I thought it would be at 290#.

The RV is 50A but the issue is if I am in a 30A park and want to run my 240V dryer I won't be able to. So I went with the Commercial version of the gen that Mobile Suites would have installed so I can run the dryer no matter what.

Does your 5er have the apartment or full size washer and dryer? Normally the apartment size are 120VAC and the 240VAC is special order.

Not sure what model numbers they are but they are side by side and not quite full size. But the Dryer is for sure 240V, they are Whirlpool.

Smile Gen Set

Well, have went from a 35/400 gen set to a 7/8500 gen set sold by Harbor Freight. While I haven't used it yet, I went from having a minimal power capability to having enough to run anything, anytime, anywhere. Also, went from an 8 hr./50% run time to 12 hr. time. That said, with the smaller gen, 50% load was almost never. Usually near peak and then getting up in the higher elevations, the engine power is lacking to give optimum wattage. That said, I do have to carry the gen set in the pick up bed which means having to park somewhat close to 5'er. Night running, if needed will create a little noise. Put a straight pipe ( have the muffler) on the exhaust to route the heat and noise straight up in the air. Lessens the noise and also the heat build up around the gen set. Also, price is amazing. Under $600 for the larger set and only about 70# difference in weight, fully fueled. About 3" difference on all measurements. I felt that was a small sacrifice for the added capability.
