Generator: remote start or duel fuel, which is more important?

Hello all,

Still researching generators and options. Iím intrigued with the generators with remote start fobs and also the dual fuel options.

What are your thoughts on these two features specifically?

I find it interesting I canít find a unit with both features.

Thank you in advance!

I wish my generator had remote start. Not interested in dual fuel. Gasoline is much better than propane to power a generator. I need propane for other stuff like heat and cooking.

remote start would be my preference, as having to get up and 'go out' somewhere to start one would get annoying, kind of like today's tv remote.... you wouldn't find many folks without one. Trying finding the channel changer on the TV itself!

seriously, being able to start any generator without having to be 'at' the generator itself is completely a big deal when you are using the generator for serious dry-camping. I would hate to have to get up, go outside, go to the front of my coach, lift the hood, and start the generator everytime I needed it. The same goes for cutting it off!

When I bought our Champion 3,400 watt with remote start I did not think I would use the remote much. I kinda thought it was a gimmick. In reality I use it a lot more than I thought I would. Saves climbing in and out of the truck bed as often. I never considered a dual fuel generator because itís a lot easier to refill my five gallon gas can than propane.

I waffle. I went dual fuel and here is why. On a 20# bottle or propane I can get nearly 20 hours of run time on eco vs about 8 on a tank of gas.

Ditto with eco off and with the AC running. ~10hrs on propane vs ~4hrs on a tank of gas.

Those numbers would only get better with the typical 30# bottles most 5th wheels use (ours uses 3x20# bottles instead)

That's the difference between sleeping comfortably all night at a truck stop or waking up sweaty and filling up the generator at 2am.
Is it more expensive to run on propane? Absolutely. And I typically run it on gasoline.....unless I need the continuous run time.

Like I said - I waffle. Other times the remote start would sure be nice....

If I did it again I'd probably go remote start/gasoline and do a 5 gallon boat tank mounted to the top for the run time.

Remote start over dual fuel.
I'm looking at this one:

Why that over a champion? Seems spendy

Remote start. Extended fuel tank. Two things my Champion 3100 doesn't have that I sure wish it did. I've had it for several years since before these options available.

Diesel gen and remote start. Have had all three fuel types over the years.
Propane is the least desirable, then gas and best is liquid cooled diesel.
