Generators: Regular or Inverter?

I know Honda & Yamaha are the best, but need something a little cheaper. I am looking at the Champion 3500/4000 and also the Champion 3100 Inverter. Will the cheaper one be good while at Walmart, etc. or do you recommend the inverter. Thanks in advance for your recommendations and comments.

If you don't want others getting upset with you or having to listen to the thing droning on all night, you must at least get an inverter generator. Also check the decibel rating at 1/2 power and not more than fifty feet away. Remember that each higher db number means twice the volume. You pay for what you get with generators.

I would always go for the inverter. Without an inverter, the engine has to maintain 3600 rpms to keep the power at 60hz. With an inverter the engine can slow down to match the load and be quieter.

Try to find a nice Honda or Yamaha used from Craig's list....they run forever, so having a few hours on them doesn't hurt.
