I came from the semi side, not the farm side, and there is a reason the big tractor trailers use a fifth wheel setup. I love the fifth wheel setup, I have the b&w companion, so I have both hitches. The ease of hooking up is wonderful, but as most have said fifth wheel trailers are designed to use a fifth wheel hitch, once you start messing with it can (not always) cause added issues I don't want to deal with. I do like my hitch because it comes out easy and I do have a level bed when I'm not towing.

We also have the Reese Goosebox. Wouldn't have anything else. Absolutely no problems. Clean bed when not towing. I use a backup camera when hooking up. No problems.

We are definitely a minority. 
I've seen people give our unit inquisitive looks as they take a stroll thru the campgrounds. Some have asked questions. Sometimes I just leave the tailgate down to help them understand.

I tremble every time I see a goose neck setup.
Knowing the dangers makes me fear for the users.

I've been looking at the Reese goose box, and that would be the only way for me to have a gooseneck hitch on my trailer. Those adapters from fifth wheel king pins to gooseneck scare me.

How about a set up like this? I saw this in Wall, SD this past summer.

Thank you all for the great advise, wee decided to go with the B&W companion. we love our new Solitude 369RL and new Dodge Ram 3500 Bighorn. can't wait to tow it somewhere.

Lol, gooseneck adapters ain't that bad, your frame isn't butter. It takes years of improper abuse to rip the hitch off the trailer, haha

Not that bad until it goes bad. And when it does its ugly. I've seen it twice on different 5ers. One failed quickly the othe was after a few years of part time use. Google some pictures.

Ya I can imagine. I'd think you'd have plenty of time to notice it before it got that bad however was the point I was trying to make, unless maybe you never look at it or in your rearview while towing ever. I don't know for certain in this case but I farm and see lots of things break and most often you've got some warning if you pay attention. Not everyone does however.

Much of the damage is concealed under the body work. One friend developed a exterior sidewall crack and floor buckling. When they removed the front cap and front skin they discoverd broken frame welds and twisted frame all from the leverage the goosneck adapter put on the frame. Imo putting a gooseneck adapter on a 5th wheel pinbox is like putting a cheater bar on a wrench.

Except a bent wrench is easier to recognize and cheaper to replace.
