Gooseneck vs fifth wheel hitch

I would like to get your thought and advice on the gooseneck hitch that goes with the rails I have in my truck now. The reason I am asking is because I have a really bad back due to 4 back surgeries and the fifth wheel hitch(Reese) is really heavy and it takes up my whole bed up so it's impossible to haul anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you're talking about the Anderson device, there's quite a thread going on about it right now on this forum. It should be one of the first threads that appears in the fifth wheel section.

Are you proposing converting your FW RV to a gooseneck hitch?
I would check with the manufacturer to see if that voids the warranty. Most don't recommend doing it because of the additional stress placed on the trailer frame that it's not designed for.
If nothing else it hurts resale value. I've been looking at possible getting a FW for my growing family. Any add for a used one that has a GN adapter I automatically pass over; frame cracks are just a risk I don't want.

I installed a hoist from the chinese store...or maybe ya' could just leave the hitch attached to the trailer, raise it enough to clear the bed and drive out from under it...I have a curt slider, which is kinda' heavy and the hoist will pick up my 3500 generator, easily. I'm 69 and still pretty stout, but, I may get old soon and need the help.

I am starting to have the same issues with the heavy hitch and plan to get the Andersen Ultimate. You can get them to fit either the rails (#3200) or the goose ball. The rail mount is 40 lbs and the ball mount is thirty something.
You would retain your pin box and use the Andersen adapter.

When I reached the point man-handling my Reese 20K hitch was too much, I bought a pickup truckbed crane from Harbor Freight. I now have a MH, but still have the crane in the bed of my dually. It has a lot of uses.

Check out Spitzlift. Handy as heck, light weight and would whip that hitch in and out in minutes with no effort. I have had one for 6 years and love it! There's several models, so look them over good.
