Grand Design

We have been cruising RV dealerships looking at fifth wheels and have seen a few by Grand Design.

They are a beautiful and thoughtful unit. But I don't know anything about the manufacturer. Can anyone shed some light? Is is quality?

Thx

A new company, been making RV's since January 2013. I bought a 39' Solitude 369RL in March of last year. We are totally pleased with it so far (about 7000 miles). They by far have the best customer service I've ever dealt with.
Check out the owners forum for GD. It is not run by Grand Design, but has one of the company owners, a general manager, and a customer service rep. that's always responding to threads there..

We just had to take our Brookstone in for repairs on a leak to Mike Thompson RV here in CA, and the man we've been talking to was telling us about Grand Design, specifically the Solitude model, and wants us to check it out at the Oct. RV show! He couldn't say enough good things about it!

Gsport....how's the space around the bed in your Solitude?? Do you feel cramped? That's one of the reasons we are starting to really dislike our Brookstone:(

I have a new Grand Design Reflection bunk house fifth wheel coming--expected in the next week or two.

A press release went out earlier this month saying they've already built 2000 Reflections--in 18 months.

This is a company that's going to be a serious force in the RV market. They appear to be customer driven, and they're dealing only with the higher quality RV dealerships.

2000 units in 18 months. Does this throw a red flag to anyone else? I just don't trust mass produced units to have good quality control.

I have been looking at the Grand Design for about a year now. It appears to be a very good company and they make a very nice product. The 3 owners are really involved and post on the owners web site often.
( Activity Stream - Grand Design Owner's Forum ) I hope to be ordering my own later this year or early next year. Check out the owners forum, you can see that as problems come up how the owners get involved. There are not many Companies where this happens. They are not perfect, but when they miss the mark, the are concerned.
Go to the company web site and check them out. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the tab "Legacy". It will give you the whole story of the Company AND the Owners.

I'm 6'3" and don't feel cramped at all. This is my 3rd 5th wheel and I'm totally pleased with it. I like having the flat floor all through the bed room and not having to watch out for the ceiling. All the slides are taller than normal. Again I don't have to watch my head. The living room and kitchen slide is, I believe 7' tall.

Grand Design

We have a 2014 Reflection by Grand Design and LOVE it. The bedroom has plenty of space to get around the bed and the closet is spacious! We had a 2011 Sierra before this one and there's no comparison between the two. The Reflection is better built, solid, and spacious and has more storage than I have things to put in it. Loving it so far!

I bought a 2014 Grand Design Solitude 379FL (front living) in May and have a few minor issues. 1st time I worked directly with the dealer Mike Thompsons in Colton Ca. However I find it MUCH easier to deal with the manufacturer directly. Grand Design has customer service that rivals Nordstrom in my opinion. Now as for the rig itself, well I was told it was a "true 4 season coach" well not exactly I've been in 100 degree heat, all shades drawn and both a/c's running and I'm lucky if it gets to 80 in the coach. Both a/c's are SUPER loud!!! Which I wish I would have known before purchase. I've also been in 50 degrees and it stayed about that temp in the coach with the furnace off. I ran just the fireplace in the living room on low and it kept the entire coach about 68 degrees overnight so not too bad there. I feel there could have been some better designing going on (if the awning is extended you can't latch your door open) that's just dumb!!! And various spots of wasted space. But overall (about 2500 miles) and I'm happy. I give them an 8 out of 10 for this coach.

we purchased a 2014 369RL in June of 2013 although we love the unit we have had issues, emergency break away switch, bedroom tv, fireplace (replacement fireplace didn't work either so they fixed it) living room tv, roof vent, 3 seals blown out on the axels and one of the magnets was faulty so no brakes took 11 months to fix them, microwave, trim bulging away from ceiling in the living room, everything has been fixed or replaced except microwave

We love our Excel by Peterson Industries. We are full-timers and needed a true full-time rig rather then a four season rig. There is a difference.

You do get what you pay for. I would never criticize a unit or someone due to price.
