Grand Design Fifth Wheel

Does anyone have experience with Grand Design models? Just came across the company an realize its a relatively new company started by experienced partners. We are just beginning our search for a full time model an any input will help.

They seem to be doing really well, more so with great service after the purchase. My wife and I are currently trying to decide between a GD, or a used New Horizon. I'm just afraid the NH is a bit much for us.

I'm impressed by everything I've seen from GD, we're looking long and hard, keep going back and forth from the Solitude to the Momentum..

You don't need to look any farther, you've found the best.. I've had my GD Solitude for over two years now and am totally pleased with it. Check out the Grand Design owners forum and the Facebook owners group

we have the same model as Gsport purchased 2 years ago as well #331 off the line, we have had a few issues but all were taken care of, our dealer seems to be the biggest problem but knock on wood we haven't had anything go wrong in the last year, we think it's an awesome 5th wheel

We're leaning hard towards the 385TH. Going tomorrow to look at several (Assuming we don't have to swim to the dealer!)

Grand Design owners used to run Thor--before the company was sold. They've got the experience required to build a great company from scratch, and their biggest positive is incredible customer service.

GD is halfway through their 3rd year in business, and someone said they're #4 in sales presently. I honestly don't know how they have built and sold so many trailers. They're sticking to only fifth wheels and travel trailers for the time being, and have a full line of lightweight trailers that are 1/2 ton towable.

I have a 2015 Reflection 323BHS--a 37' mid weight bunkhouse fifth wheel with 4 sliders and a great floorplan. I deleted the dinette in lieu of a SuperSofa option--twin reclining leather love seat with a left hand leather recliner and right hand leather recliner. It's 12' of the most comfortable seating I've ever been in.

It was one of the manufactures (Grand Design) that we looked at. We were looking at the Solitude line but ended up with a Forest River Cedar Creek 34RL.

Could not find a dealer for the Solitude model within 100 miles of us. This seems to be a will built unit and had most of the features that I and my DW wanted.

After reading on the GD owners forum for the last 2 months, I don't feel they're any better than the rest. It's hard to be better when you use the same suppliers as the rest. But the customer service end seems to be better. It seems for awhile that a service rep was on the forum but haven't seen her respond much anymore.

My wife and I purchased the 2014 Solitude 368RD last year. It replaced a Heartland North Trail Caliber TT. The GD is 39'. We have had it out 12-13 times for 3-4 day trips. We have not encountered any problems of consequence. There are so many features we like about the Solitude. For practicality the one touch level system is wonderful. We are very happy with the quality and workmanship of this RV. It is roomy and comfortable. For the two of us we are pleased with the floor plan. The king size walk around bed has a very comfortable mattress. The sound system is marginal, I will upgrade it. My wife loves the full size pantry. It is well insulated and has not had a problem cooling in 90* weather. The storage compartment is huge! We pull this with a 2014 Ram 2500 diesel. It pulls nicely and we average a bit over 12mpg.

I have a grand design 323bhs and love it. Service is great and the company seems to to be a pleasure to deal with. Very happy so far

I like the look of these but I'm very new to this towing thing. If the hitch weight is 3000lbs, does this mean I would need something heavier than a say Ram 3500 to tow this. I am looking at maybe a medium duty like a Freightliner or International. Or go heavier but that seems like a little overkill.

My 3500 has a 5,700 lb payload, anything short of 4700 shouldn't be an issue.

ok, thanks, I should have looked at the specs. for the 3500 but I always assumed a 3500 in any make was a 1 ton truck.
