Greetings all, I had my axles flipped on my 26' Dutchmen 5th wheel yesterday. I have plenty of clearance now, but it looks a little goofy with those little 14" tires and the camper sitting so high up. It doesn't have any fender skirts, if it did that might help. I don't want to spend a lot of money on bigger tires. I also priced the fender skirts online at about $250 per pair and thats also more than I want to spend. Any thoughts on possibly making fender skirts or other ideas. Thanks in advance

Any room on the shackles to move the pivot points up, and lower it a bit?

Mine's higher (flipped) than it needs to be, too, but I've learned to live with it.

Thanks Jeff, actually I wouldn't say mine is higher than it needs to be. Fender skirts would make it look a lot better, I just can't see spending $250+ on a couple pieces of plastic. If I can't think of a cheaper way to cover that area, I'll just live with it also.

You might think this is kind of a wierd idea but how about making the fender skirts from 5/4 pressure treated wood. You could cut the radiused edge off the top and then router the outside edge only so it won't look like wood when you're done. The leading and trailing edges could be mitered to the main horizontal piece. Once it is all sealed and painted you couldn't tell its wood. If you coat the wood with a fiberglass resin then lightly sand with 220 before paint it should provide a fairly smooth finish with no dry spots.
I did a similar repair at the fresh water gravity inlet on my Dutchy. There was nothing to attach the new dish to because of a disconnected overflow tube that caused the surroundng wood to rot. And I was not about to strip the siding off my camper to fix it...

I don't think your ideas weird Steve, thats the kind of ideas I was looking for. A trip to Lowes may be the way to go. Vinyl Siding, aluminum flashing, who knows what I'll find. I guess I'll just have to be careful not to make my camper go from looking a little goofy to looking very goofy. Thanks

Try a RV salvage yard and see if you can get the skirts from a wrecked unit. This is the type of thing you need to do right or it will look even worse, just my .02
