Hail Damage
How much hail can the typical 5th take? I have seen several airstream trailers with hail damage but never noticed any on a 5th wheel w/o aluminium sides.
Are we safe from hail damage?

Depending on the size and velocity of the hail, nothing is safe.
Airstream by it's finish and flat panel design , may be more susceptable to show damage. Most other aluminum sided 5ths and trailers use texture to hide/ minimize damage. Vaccum bonded side walls on RVs have probably the best chance of survival.

Depends on the size of hail. An Airstream has more side exposure with the rounded roof/wall build, but hail will glance of it too. I live in Oregon and we very rarely see the type of hail storms that hit other parts of the country. But last year we had the unfortunate experience of geting caught in a nasty one in the mountains. Thunder, rain and hail. We don't have a 5'er, but have a TT. Same basic roof and walls design sorta. The hail was between a dime and a quarter in size. It broke all 3 roof vents but didn't do anything to the roof, at least not that I could tell when I checked it. Walls were fine. However we had just bought a new 2012 Ram 2500 5 days prior and it recieved 6 dents on the hood and several more on the roof. No dents on the sides of the truck. We went for a walk around the CG after the storm blew over and some of the cars/trucks got hammered. I'm 60 yrs old and have lived in Oregon all my life and have never been in anything so horrific. The sound of the hail beating down on the roof of the TT was deafing. I just can't imagine what it's like to go thru a hurricane or tornado, storms we just never get on out west.

A lot more damage than you think. We have a '10 glass sided 5er and had a storm move thru. The hail put holes in my shower skylight (really thin material), AC cover, frig cover, and one ceiling vent cover. The aluminum skirting took a hit too. Not much but enough to catch the eye. Just hailed with very little rain. I had it taped up within 30 minutes. Turned in a claim and got everything replaced.
