I have had both also. I towed 28-30K combined with my 11 HO Dually and 3:42's. I just looked at a pic it showed 172 trans with 100 outside in 6th at 62mph. It would run in the 160's with outside temps in the high 80's. I don't remember it getting over the high 170's except stop and go traffic in PalmSprings when it hit around 225. I had a MagHytec deep pan on it.
My 15 RAM towing 32K combined with Aisin and 4:10's runs a bit cooler and does not seem to climb as much as the 68RFE did when the outside temps got warmer. The Aisin does not get as warm in stop and go weather.
The 68 is a great trans I had 65K troubler miles but the Aisin it the ticket for heavier loads for sure.
Notice outside temp. This is 5 miles into a 5% grade.

Engine oil goes up tp 220 l don't see any one sitting beside the road waiting for it to go to 190. My tranny oil is blood red and no burn smell. l use syn so don't look for me beside the road. I have had semis with tranny temps up to 225 . So l am not worried about it .

For unbiased info on safe towing. I think you'll be over on your payload capacity. Our coach is lighter than yours and our pin was 3300lbs at one point! And that was without a generator or w/d!
Plus, you have to subtract from that available payload the hitch weight, extra passengers, stuff in the cab, extra stuff in the bed, toolbox, bed cover, running boards, etc.

The hitch weight is 2515 and the dry weight is 11205 on the Open Range 386.

That's because there's a huge closet there and the back end has a huge window in it. I think this thread was hijacked and has become more of what can I tow than which one. Yup. I bought the Cardinal at a great price and also joined the Cardinal RV Club.
BTW Dry weight on the Cardinal is 13645lbs and hitch weight is 2235lbs.
My truck is rated for pulling this 5er.

I fully plan on that. I'm going to weigh my truck front axle, back axle and total weight this week.
The 5er is in getting a full roof and slide reseal done. When I pick it up, I'll go directly to the weigh scales and do truck rear axle weight with the 5er attached and then the 5er axles. This will give me my true dry weight.
I'll do the same when I get the 5er loaded.

I used the pay catscales once and tried to get my money back. The truck and trailer were much heavier then I knew the weight was.
The attendant told me I was to light for the calibrated scales I was using. His scales were set to check overloaded trucks at 80000 lbs and read over to assure trucks were not overloaded at the road scales.
So to me it's a waste to use them for lighter units.
I do know my unloaded truck weight and trailer weight and load according to my CC weight capacity.
And I am able to load full fresh water tank every trip.
If one can use the highway scales would be nice, but every time I have the change they just wave me on, they just are not interested in my information.
