Highest quality 5er

To save some time doing all the research which could take months what do you think are the top three 5ers built today.
I want to go to their web sites and DROOL and dream of owning one someday

Continental Coach, New Horizons, Spacecraft. Also all these are custom build. You asked for highest quality. All these are over 200,000.00. If mass produced DRV would be high on list. Excel also. Tetons are also high quality but sadly not in business anymore. Consumers traded quality for cheaper price.

Yep - agree, Fork's RV (Continental Coach), New Horizons, Spacecraft. I think you can custom build a 50' maybe 55' trailer. Two Bedroom / two bath models would be cool....

I keep an eye on these units just incase I win the Mega Lottery. I want to know what I would buy....lol

We speced out a 40' SpaceCraft that was less than 150,000 with all the whistles and bells. The only drawback is it's a little heavier than we want - around 21,000 lbs loaded.

An Excel or Nuwa Champagne are our next choices. We like the floorplan of the Excel 38 RDE and the NuWa 38 CKRD - very few companies manufature one with this floorplan. Both are excellent. Drawback with the NuWa is they are no longer made. The company is still in business, though, selling other brands and doing maintenance and repairs.

HH II/ some Forest River lines/DRV Mobile Suites.

There is no brand that can be chosen for the best quality.

From reading on several RVing forums about the wood rot problems from water leaks, I'd stay away from Excel. Just read the Excel forum here on irv2.com

I have just been researching Grand Design ( a new upstart company ) and seems like most of their owners are very, very pleased with their units. They built their 1000th unit a month or so ago. They look good in the research, now I have to go to a dealer and take a personal look at them.

It's basically another Eckhart mass produced unit. Any 40' 5ther weighing just 13,000 lbs with a gross of 16,000 is cutting a lot of corners to get this weight. Also has 7,000# axles. My 39' Teton dry and empty weighed 17,000. My previous DRV 33' weighed 13,000 dry. Can't get high quality units this light. Now what you are going to use it for makes a difference. Vacationing fine if it suits you. Might make a decent snowbird unit but I wouldn't. We are full time and demand quality. OP asked what top 3. What are you looking for?

New improved method of RV manufacturing is what sells.
And economical and easy to travel is where the industry is going to.
I am old but believe in new improved methods.
No one drives a 6000 lbs car anymore and we all drive longer and faster.

The way they cut weight is not the way to go, in my opinion. Laminate wood cabinets. Light weight steel in chassis. Cheap trim, etc. I demand quality though. We would not be content with these mass produced units out of Eckhart. Hard to make a light weight unit that is large. Yes cars are lighter, they are also smaller. We can't compare smaller cars to larger 5thers. If cars were large again they would be heavy.

Most of the time, light weight and high quality are not available in one unit. Lots of higher quality units have been listed above, but one was left out...Lifestyle.

You have the really high quality units like Custom Coach, Spacecraft and New Horizon.

In the mass produced units, you have DRV (Elite and Mobile Suites), Lifestyle and Excel.

Next step down is Landmark (Heartland), Cardinal, Jayco Pinnicale, Cedar Creek and Redwood.

Have fun shopping.

Ken
