How does slide out work?

I have a fifth wheel and considering replacing the floor since it's 90% carpet. With two dogs and 3 kids I don't think it will look pretty long.

Anyways I want to make sure the slide out will go over top of the flooring when it comes in. Which brings me to my point.

I have a slide out that has carpet on it that is level with the carpet of the main floor. How does this work when the slide out comes in?

Is there wheels on the slide out that in the open position go into holes so it's level then when coming in and in the store position the wheels ride across the carpet?

Is there wheels or is it like a plastic bottom on slide out that slides over the carpet with?, Picture would be great on this.

On a flat floor slide of this type I believe the slide rides up some sort of ramp when being retracted and some have rollers which ride over the main floor and some have a "skid strip".

Skid strips are made of different material depending on the type of flooring their intended to ride upon. If riding over carpet, their usually a plastic or aluminum type material. If intended to ride over tile, they're usually covered in a carpet type material to slide more smoothly.

Changing the type of skid strip is no small job on many rigs. It's possible to change carpet to tile (or other hard surface flooring) and continue to use the original skid strips, but it makes the scratching of the floor more likely.

Look under the slide when it's slid out. That's what will slide over the main floor.
And Rick is right. There is a ramp design that allows them to drop flush with the main floor.
Also, to pull all the carpet and refloor it in whatever, you really should pull the slide out. So much easier.
