How long before I ding my Truck

So far I have towed from Florida to Ohio, Ohio to Pa., Pa back to Ohio. I dinged the trailer but not the truck yet. The truck has backup sensors and a camera. I have noticed that there are alot of really bad dings on tailgates that are left original. Plus probably the worse, having the 5th wheel fall on the truck. I have seen 3 of these trucks but dozens with dinged tailgates. Things I think.I know. When the tailgate needs to be down and when it needs to be up when connecting / disconnecting. Make sure the 5th wheel is fully connected before pulling out of a RV site, and do not try to back the 5th wheel up a steep incline. So - how long do I have...ugh.

Lol. You could get a finishing hammer and a go give it a little whack in an out of notice spot to get it over with. It will happen sooner or later. That's life. When we bought our MH used there were little things both inside and out. DW would fret over them. Told her as soon as you ding something you will never again see the others - only the one you did. Guess what? !

It's directly related to the inverse of your payments !

Enjoy and don't worry about it - be careful to avoid it, but don't fret over it...

after all, it's not a living thing and can be replaced / repaired !

Probably the best advice I have heard - from someone that put a hugh dent in his tailgate. Do not let anyone hurry you. If you feel hurried 'stop'. Then proceed slowly. Walk around the truck and trailer 2 times. I do like the idea of taking a hammer and placing the 1st dent where I want it...

Chances are, it won't come on a camping trip. The ding will come from the doofus in the hoopdee that parks next to you at the grocery store & smacks you with their car door.

My 16 year old backed into mine after 2 months. A bit more than a ding.

Replace OEM tailgate with a 5th wheel center cut out tailgate and hook up problem is solved (if you don't forget to raise the king pin high enough to clear the gate)

About dropping the 5er on the pickup??? There are those who have and there are those who will,,,,, I have, it's not fun and so very frustrating. Just walk away for a few minutes to gather wits and let the smoke from your ears disipate so you can see more clearly. Usually nothing a 5-lb sledge and backing weight won't put back into usefull condition though. :-{)>

You don't have to drop your 5er on you truck. Do the trailer break check before you raise you landing gear all the way.

Raising the landing gear is usually the last thing we do before heading out. What I do is raise the landing gear to the point that the feet are just off the pad (2x6) jump in the truck, in-gauge the trailer brakes and give the truck a little gas to insure the every thing is locked in. Raise the landing gear and get on the road.
At our last RV gathering I was amazed at how many people don't follow this procedure.
