HR fiver questions

I bought a used Holiday Rambler last year, its a 2002 30RKD - I have long thought that HR made quality rigs, but after all the changes in the industry, including HR dropping the towable lines, I wonder.

Does anyone know what frame would be under this rig? Once the snow retreats I will take a look - also need to look at the axles and get some new shocks.

It has double pane windows and heat in the basement, but my wonder is how is it insulated? I thought it had batt insulation in the walls, then I see other places that all the insulation is foam-core - anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

Tim

Can't answer all your questions but I can tell you yours was built during the time Monaco owned Holiday Rambler. Our friends have an 07, can't remember the model, but it is a very nice fifth wheel they bought new. The only problems have been with house stuff and they have dragged it all over the country. It has Mor-Ryde suspension and tows very well. We had an 03 HR Vacationer gas motorhome that we only kept 2 years because it was a nightmare drive. Other than that it was fine. We then got an 05 HR Ambassador diesel pusher we kept for 7 years. It was well built and drove well, after some modifications. The only real trouble we had with it was with the 4 door Norcold fridge which we finally scuttled for a residential type. All in all, I would say at that time Monaco was building some quality products so I would think you probably have a well built fifth wheel.

I think they went bankrupt in 09 and the assets were bought by Navistar. They started producing motorhomes and I assume were bringing back the towables. Navistar sold off Monaco last year. I think the company was ASV, or something like that. Anyway they own Fleetwood. They are the ones who shut down the towable division.

I think I heard that HR was gone--period. ASV made an announcement recently.
