Fact or fiction.
I never believed it would work.
I figured it was made up from someone
wanting to sale ice.. Still do.

There is a problem with FitRV's August 2014 synopsis...he failed to accept is own 3rd consideration listed at the end of the video - enough water.

Two things were done wrong for this test:
1. The test needed "enough water" to lift the ice into the solution. Ice will not float above the water like stated, but will cover the surface of the water.
2. More ice was needed for that size tank to increase the scrubbing action.

The scrubbing action of a floating mass of ice is very easy to feel with a cold ice filled drink...stir it around in your hand to feel the impacts of the ice against the glass wall.

And finally, FitRV's test showed how ice (in a floating solution) can scrub the tank...with how the tank walls were scrubbed very clean.

We have used ice/water to clean out our black tank. Unlike what is shown, it simply works. And after the lazy drive, we have added a bit of Dawn detergent to let the solution soak. Dawn detergent is what the Coast Guard used to clean birds after the Exxon Valdez wreck. Soaking is the one point that anyone can agree upon - including FitRV.

I agree. the test is improperly performed. i always added ice and detergent to tank with at least 5 gal water, immediately before driving off. There's simply not enough movement with the ice alone. Not sure where he got this recipe.

Dunno whether it really helps or not, but at the end of a weekend trip I toss the remaining ice down the toilet along with a few gallons of water for the trip home.

I used to have a truck just like that!! Mazda or ford? Your test proves that ice will "scrub" a tank but I just don't see a 45' DP driven like you drove your pu

Not my pick up, but he did drive it crazy. Even driving crazy that still didn't do the job of cleaning the tank.. I couldn't/wouldn't ever drive that crazy with my rig.

It was a nice demonstration, but if he added 5 gal water and some dishwasher or laundry detergent, he wouldn't have to drive crazy to get it to slosh aroung properly. The roads I just drove would have done the job pretty nicely.

It DOES work - we have a portable ice maker and the last couple of days of a trip we go into hi production mode and make as much ice as we can (20# is about right) dump the ice and 2oz of Dawn in the toilet and drive home.

We have a dump station close to home, so we dump and flush. Add a gallon of water to the black tank and 1 OZ of RVDIGESTIT and we are good to go!

If it were me, I would use crushed ice. That would have more edges on each piece than regular ice cubes. But that's just me.......

Personally I have not had much luck with this solution. Got to have a lot of water in the tank, and I don't like to carry so much. More power to those that get it to work.

I am glad for my black tank flush built into the trailer connections. It works VERY well.
