Is My RV Level?

What is the best way to determine if your 5th wheel is level while connected to the truck? And how accurately can this be measured? Can it be determined within a quarter of an inch? It seems to me you would have to have them both sitting on a flat level surface to start with, but then what?

Measure the distance of the front of the trailer from the ground. Do the same for the rear. Do they match? In no, then not level.

Take a good "carpenters" level and put it at different spots on the floor

1/4 inch is unrealistic. Unless its a polished shop floor I doubt you will find a surface that is less than a 1/4 in variance over 40ft.

It is also difficult to find a proper reference line on the rig front to back.

Funny!!
If the ground isn't level your rig will be off by the same amount that the ground is off.

The fridge is about the only thing that cares about being level - so measure it across and front to back, level to that; the rest will be close enough for comfort. I use a 9" level. If the Mrs. complains about the cooktop being off kilter, split the difference.

Don't know why you'd need to get within a 1/4" .

Park on level ground; most any parking lot ; stand back , if it looks level , that's close enough for the fridge to operate.
Now if your want to play a game of marbles on the kitchen floor , you may need to get closer to 100% level .

Go to a parking lot
Step into trailer
Place a glass of water on counter........eyeball it
Move glass around to various areas....stove top, dinette table, bathroom counter and shelf in fridge
Looks level. Good to go

Open bathroom door..........does it swing one way or other or stay put

Measure distance from from 5vr overhang to truck bed rail....at front of 5vr and at rear of truck bed

Place a level on side wall overhang lower trim.

I wasn't wanting to get it to within 1/4", I was asking what people call level? Within an inch or 1/4". My biggest concern is for tire wear and knowing if I can raise the RV nose without throwing it out of level to the extent that tire wear will become an issue. But I need to know where am I now as a reference before I contemplate changing it.

For starters all of you worried about the fridge he isn't concerned about that type of level he wants to know if he is towing level.

For the op walk back 20 yards and look at it. If it looks level you are close enough. Measuring is unnecessary. Splitting hairs is not required.

Install level mate pro. Put the app on your phone and you can drive and look at the state of trailer.
