Is there ANY 5er designed to tow 5K pounds?

I have a load that totals 5K pounds that I would really like to tow behind a 5er. I am looking for a 5er that is designed for this load. I could get a tandem axle trailer to go behind the 5er to reduce tongue weight (and possibly help with tracking).

I believe I will be good to go with a 5er in the 31' to 36' range (34' to 39' actual) + the trailer where I go which is Michigan and they are good with up to 75' (just have to get out of IN at 65' max).

Looking for this 5er...

Thanks in advance.

I would be amazed if you find a 5er with a frame built to withstand the stress's of that much weight. Another major factor is tongue weight on the rear of the 5er vs pin weight on the truck, and how it affects handling. If you don't have at least 20% of 5er weight on the pin, handling will be poor.

Is there any that is rated by the factory to tow anything behind? Every double trailer setup I have seen a good look at, looked very jury rigged, and unsafe to tow anything. receivers bolted to bumpers, home made receivers, ect.

I talked to one driver that was fueling. He originally installed the hitch off set to the drivers side, so he could see his skijet trailer in his mirror. Now he has a double wide 4 wheeler trailer, so the trailer tacks about 10" to a foot outside the drivers side of the 5er. I can not imagine how he has gotten away with it.

What are you wanting to tow that can’t go inside a TH? There are several models (mine included) with 5k+ capacities

I appreciate the replies. I understand the beams on these are light (understatement). I work for a steel mill and one day they were running beams only used by the RV industry. They are rolled on a continuous line and I was told they are tricky to pull and push just right or there is a mess. On the cooling bed I could see how light they were.

I have a '74 Bronco. We don't take it every time we use the 5er so I really don't want to go to a TH. 5K is probably about 700#'s under what I will really be but I haven't weighed the Bronco so I don't know exactly where it's at.

Seems like with all the doubles I see on the road someone would make one designed for it. I have buddies that flat-tow their rigs behind the 5er but I really don't want to do that. And I will not tow with something that's jurry-rigged.

DRV might have one rated for 5000lbs but I bet NH or Spacecraft can make one. Also Jayco has it as an option but not sure on the weight capacity. Even Northwood who makes there own frames does not recommend it at all. I think under 36' it will be stretch to find one with a 5000lbs rating.

Sounds like you need a MH and a car hauler or flat tow.

Agreed...you didn’t include the weight of the trailer to put the bronco on, so your actually closer to 6500lbs when it’s all said and done. With some serious tongue weight

I agree. Maybe that is what we will come to.

I did include the weight of the Bronco--it's ~4,000#'s. Trailer is 1,470#'s. 5,470 all-in if the Bronco weight is correct. It doesn't have a top, tailgate or doors so I might even be a little under 4K#'s.

Thank-you.

Full disclosure, I want to buy a new trailer for towing my Bronco and have been looking at Featherlite or ATC to get a light one. I was hoping to tow this trailer behind my 5er when I need to (which is not that often). A few other times a year I would just tow the trailer with the Bronco on it behind my truck bumper tow. I have access to a great trailer but it's kinda heavy to go behind a 5er. That is if there is any trailer like this that can go behind a 5er.

Right now I pay a buddy to tow my Bronco once a year and then pick it up when we are done with vacation when we take the 5er. This actually works awesome with very little potential for problems but I like to be self-sufficient. The other times I tow my Bronco I don't take the 5er. But I would like to tow both the 5er and the Bronco more often.

I really don't want to flat-tow the Bronco for several reasons.

Here's what I tow:

Can't help with the correct trailer designed for towing that much--lots good info mentioned already.
However, from looking at the beef in that trailer--are you sure it weighs only 1450?
edit: maybe that isn't the trailer you will use?

I think you'll be well past the max length of any private party towing setup. Isn't it 60' or something like that? Maybe there's some variation between states but I know I've seen this discussed with folks in big class A's hauling trailers.
