Is This Even Legal? (5th Wheel via Tow Hitch)

Had it not been seen by my son, with his own eyes, I would have thought this was an "April Fool" joke. Is this in any way legal? (Even if it is...I wouldn't want to be driving anywhere around this rig!!!)

It looks very odd, but assuming the hitch isn't over loaded is there really any reason it wouldn't work without issue?
I'm not a trailer guy, so I don't know, it just seems that way to me.

That does not look safe to me! Look how that whole receiver hitch is bending downward! Wow! [emoji50]

And the owner said " I don't want to cut through my truck box for one of those messy Goose neck balls "

Just thinking of the added leverage , of the pin weight , that far back .
As evidenced by the fact it's already bending , where are the LEOs .

Give some clown an arc welder , and they think their engineers.

Yes it is legal but someone should catch up to them and have a talk about trailer sway before it is too late.

WOW!!! That trucks hitch is not rated for that weight! Not to mention that Rube Goldberg connection he made.

Forget about trailer sway! I'm concerned about simple stopping and starting! And those "safety chains" make me wonder if they're really correctly fastened (to anything substantial). It's probably just a Class I hitch to boot...with someone riding inside the trailer!

Looking closer, it's a Chevy. And those tail lights were only used 99-02. So now we know it's an old truck. And if he doesn't want to drill a hole in the bed, I fear it's a 1/2 ton. Otherwise, that's what the trucks for!!!
