just a little something I hate
Is there a good solution or replacement for this bad, bad little fastener? Causes me trouble. I like to inspect and clean in there often and that fastener seems to be designed to fail.

Easier just to buy a few spares.

Some nylon expansion pins of that type have a center post that when pushed in expands them. Pulling the pin causes them to be easily removed. Look online or in auto parts stores.

my side by side uses these kind of fasteners to hold the Tupperware together.. in my opinion they are only good for one or two uses.. I bought what I needed on either Amazon or ebay.... 50 pieces for $7.50 and mailed free... I now use them once... and if they're good I'll put them back in... otherwise I put new ones back in....
If this is on the OUTSIDE of your RV and the panel would fly off if they failed... they would be new each time I opened the panel...

Apply new water proof grease, to the shaft of the fastener , every time you remove the vent. That makes the twisting of the fastener easy the next time.

...X2. I use a clear spray silicon and haven't broke one yet.

There is a place in Canada called Spaenaur.com. They sell all types of fasteners. I would look for something that has a couple of small pins on the part that is inserted, then a quarter turn to lock in place.

Perhaps a silly question, but do you normally remove those clips ? If they are turned, a quarter turn, the vent should come out with the clips still in place.

Sorry guys - a death in my family kept me away. I actually hadn't thought of lubrication. I think it would have prevented the failure. I don't remove the fastener, but give it a quater-turn. The picture is of the junk piece after it failed. I check and clean behind the refrigerator very often and put a lot of stress on these insubstantial fasteners.
