You can ride on the bump stops if the bags fail on a total air ride system. It is not comfortable and you are not going to run at full speed, but you can get to a safe location and get another bag. And I agree with Air Lift Rep, I had bags on my 10 wheelers that were over 15 years old with no issues. You have to watch for rubs, snags and anything that will do damage, but it does take quite a bit to damage the bags. The biggest problem that most people have is how they route the airlines leading to the bags.

Air Bags on Ram 2500

95% of class 8 tractors and or trucks have air ride suspension today. When equipped with air ride the system has a leveling valve that inflates or deflates the air bags based on weight. The concept is to keep the truck level for better ride and breaking.

I installed air bags to replace the rubber overload stops on the 2500, when I first hooked up the 5er I had measured the rear bumper height then hooked up the 5er and found the bumper was down about 5.5 inches. I inflated the air bags to bring the bumper back to the unloaded height. The pressure is at 42 lbs. I leave about 5 lb.in the bag when not towing.

We get a level ride that is very comfortable.

What is your opinion concerning air bags?

Should I install them?

What is the GVWR from the sticker in the door? My 2014 is a 14,000 lb GVWR suspension and it only sets 1/2 inch when I hook up. My 2012 was a 12,300 lb GVWR and it sat down 2 inches when I hooked up the same camper.

Although we're looking at a 5500 any HD truck, including the 3500, will ride very stiff. I think adding a air ride suspension, such as Keldermans, will not only smooth the ride out but keep the truck at the same ride height no matter what the load.

After that a good air hitch, such as the ET Hitch Jr., would be a good addition. I'm I'm

Ford's ride quite a bit smoother than the competition, still rough compared to a car though.

That is an opinion as this is. Our friends that have a F350 KR SRW LB rode with us in our 11 RAM Dually LongHorn and they commented several times how much better it rode than their truck, also they liked the LongHorn interior better too.

I haven't rode in a newer dodge so I can't say much about them but I know Ford is 100x smoother than Chevy. I know the new dodges are 100x better than a few years ago also. They really stepped it up in the interior features and quality department while Chevy still lags behind. Chevys went downhill in 2008, all my die hard Chevy friends with bow tie tattoos drive Ford now, lol.

2008? Chevy has a great new look inside it new 2015. It's power train is tops in the HD department. You can say you like a Ford, buy not because it is better then a Chevy!!

Actually both Ford and dodge have more hp, torque, payload and towing capacity than the Chevy in the hd department and the 2015 Chevy is almost as nice as a 2010 Ford inside, almost, lol! They got a ways to go still.

If you go to this test you will see that what is on paper doesn't translate to where the rubber meets the road. http://canadiantruckkingchallenge.ca...an-truck-king/

By the numbers you are right. But in real world towing they are all very equal. I tow 20k and it tows easily and have passed Fords, Dodges and older Chevys on hills.

Those tests are all bias, you can find one depicting any of them winner. They never use comparable trucks, although they don't make one exactly the same if you look at the specs of the tested most times they aren't even close.

Glenn west is right, they are all pretty close now and any will do the job. Fords just last longer, especially in working environments cause that's what they are designed to do. Just look around, you'll see tons more old Fords on the roads still working.
