Exclamation Just purchased a 2016 keystone Cougar 5th wheel

We just Purchased a 2016 Keystone Cougar 277RLSWE 5th wheel It has a solar panel and 4 house batteries. Table and 4 chairs instead of a dinette. I will be doing the Walk Thru this coming Thursday. I noticed when the disconnect switch is off you can still turn on some of the Lights and they blink. Same with the radio and there is a clicking sound like a relay coming from the outside speakers with the radio off and the disconnect switch in off position. appears to be feed back of some sort. When disconnect switch is in the on position everything appears to work normally. The dealer is aware of this problem. Don't know if solar and batteries are factory or not.It appears that the fiver came from the factory that way. . Anything I should be aware of during my walk thru and inspection. would like to hear from other cougar owners.
TIA
Mel

Add a real disconnect switch, you know, one that disconnects everything.

Hey Mel,

Congratulations!

2 weeks ago we did the almost same thing- did the paperwork on a '16 Cougar 25RKS.

We wanted SHORT since we are coming from a history of truck campers- we value maneuverability and rarely stay more than a night or two in the same location.

Have an Andersen hitch coming- it should arrive today and in 4 weeks I'll drive the 2 hours to pick the trailer up.

Best of luck with yours!

John

Just purchased a 2016 keystone Cougar 5th wheel

We have a 2017 foot Cougar 5th wheel it is 29’ we have a disconnect on it and when we would go to get it from storage the battery would be drained. This time we took the terminals off the battery. A friend of ours also has a Cougar and told us we would need to disconnect the battery to stop it from draining if you let it sit for a couple weeks. I would love to know if anyone has found something that works to stop the battery from draining. On another note we love our Cougar!

When we picked up our Cougar the antenna was not connected properly so no tv we had to take it back to have I fixed check it while you are there. It should bring in stations. They try to tell us it was because of the nearby tall buildings we didn’t know any better at the time so check the hook up while you are there and make sure the AC can get to a temperature and kick off. Both ours and our friends had to take them back for them to fix the AC both of our fivers were new. Once those things were fixed we’ve not had a problem.

On another forum I was told that the Disconnect switch does not disconnect the Auto Levelers and one other thing Which they did not say what it was. So it appears that a new disconnect switch to disconnect all batteries is needed when in storage or not hooked to shore power. Mine has a solar panel which should take care of that problem and keep the batteries charged when not being used and in storage outside. I will have to learn more about the solar that is installed it looks to be factory installed with 4 house batteries.

My Auto Level works on my Keystone Laredo with I turn off the battery. Been wondering about that. Sounds like I need to invest in a "real" battery disconnect

All very good information when we checked there were quite a few wires heading out before the disconnect so we will be redoing it and replacing the quick disconnect. Thanks

If it were me, the unit wouldn't leave the lot til that problem is corrected. Hope you're thinking the same way.

The way I understand it, it is a gov law thing to keep some things connected to the battery, like hard wired propane and smoke detectors, etc... Our Cougar is like that. I keep ours plugged in, BUT if I ever have to park it unplugged, (which I did one night at work, ) I will disconnect the battery. Some day I will rewire the disconnect switch or add another. Sorry cannot speak of solar power.

I would disconnect the battery if you store it or when you come back the battery will be dead.
