King Pin tripod/stabilizer question

I use one everytime I set up. It keeps me from hitting my head on the pin lol and I run a lock thru it for security.

Just personal preference. Not necessary but I like it.

I installed a set of cross braces similar to Cumminsfan's system. I used cargo bars from a Love's truck stop and 4 pieces of angle iron at a cost of $65. It stopped 90% of the movement. Last winter I purchased a set of braces that go on the frame from Camping world and they stopped what was left.

I have the 6 point auto leveling system and there is still some movement but not much. The dealer told me not to bother and I agree.

I do worry about one of the front ones failing though so I'll be keeping a close eye on the system.

Used it on the Forest River, cargo bars crossed between the front jacks. The Voltage has 6 point hydraulic, so not on this one.

Cumminsfan do you have pictures of what you did on rear jacks. My 5er has strong arm for front but nothing in rear but jacks and both sides come down at the same time. Would like to take out little motion left by adding something on rear jacks. As far as tripod save your money not worth it.

I welded a plate to the bottom of the stab jack. Attached a bracket for the pipe to bolt to. On the frame end, I just made another U shape bracket and welded it to the frame. I used a bolt and nut that has a 3/4" head (9/16"?)for tightening so the same 3/4 socket can be used to lower the stabs as well. I used 3/8" bolts for the connection at the ends. For some goofy reason Northwood installed the stabs at an angel so that's why I angled the bar. Hard to see the bottom plate as I shape it to match the stab jack somewhat.

Camping with a buddy in his new rig and I was SHOCKED and told him his leveling system was angled !!!

Well I could only see one side so he showed me the other side and said that's the way it is !!!

the legs actually splay OUT a bit so the pads are further out to the side than the top connection at the rv... thus 'pushing' one side against the other and eliminating all the wiggle of a straight up and down leveling ram !!!

When someone is walking around inside the 5er it will bounce/wiggle. Rubber tires will bounce, suspension systems are made to bounce. To eliminate the bouncing/wiggling you need to keep the weight from pushing down on the tires and suspension by making sure your stabilizers are tight between the 5er and the ground. Don’t just let them out far enough to touch the ground, turn the crank more to make sure they are tight so they will not allow the 5er to push down on the tires. Use a bipod/tripod under the king pin. Make sure it is tight between the ground and the king pin, don’t just adjust it till it touches, tighten it so the front overhang will not move. Make sure to check the stabilizers and bipod/tripod every couple of days because they will loosen up over time. Doesn’t make sense spending a lot of money on landing jack stabilizers when the landing jacks are stable and don’t bounce up and down. If you have properly adjusted the stabilizers and bipod/tripod then you shouldn’t have any bouncing/wiggling. This has worked for me over the past 15 years.
Chocks are to keep the 5er from rolling forward or backwards. They do not eliminate the weight of the 5er from pushing down and causing the bouncing/wiggling. If you park on a site that has a incline/decline then you probably want to use chocks to keep your 5er from rolling when you unhitch.
There are a lot of other options out there to “eliminate” the bouncing/wiggling if you have the extra money and want to spend it.
