Landing gear

2012 Sydney Outback. Driver side landing gear will not operate unless I apply upward pressure on the jack. Seems as if something has shifted and gears are not meshing. When there is pressure on the jack everything works perfect. I am going to tear into this project but was looking for some advice. Can't be a major fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If the LG is an Atwood, there is a drive pin that will occasionally back out or even break. It's in the top of the leg and under a sheet metal cover that pops off. It might also be embedded in a big wad of grease. If it has backed out, you can drive it back in. If it has sheared you might find a replacement pin at a hardware store that has the many pull out drawers of nuts, bolts and odd stuff. That original drive pin is solid and has a distressed area in the middle to hold it in place. An alternative is a rolled steel spring pin which is actually a stronger piece then the solid one, much easier to install and what I've used. Additionally, there is a rebuild kit which has a replacement pin, gears and thrust washers for about $40. Oh and a #10 or #12 machine screw works in place of a pin in an emergency.

LG brands other then an Atwood - probably similar, but so far have no experience with the Lippert on our current 5er - but probably will eventually

I believe that the old RBW were the same way. I agree with IC2 that it sounds like the drive pin.

How can I tell what make of LG I have? Have it removed and taken apart. There is a bearing that is completely destroyed. Need to find part but not sure which make I have. Looking at some Picts on the net and it looks like a Stromberg Carlson. Cannot find any documentation anywhere

Pop the top cap off flip it over and read the numbers. It could be one of several different brands.

Standard Landing Gear Manufacturer - Venture Mfg Co

Here's some reading /\ /\ for you. These Ventures look like a clone of Atwood's with a drive pin that might be prone to break. I would give Venture a call AFTER you determine if there is any part failure - we are only guessing in our responses.

Looking at your Owners Manual....it says your landing gear is from Lippert. www.lci1.com. Looking at Lippert information on a google search reveals that Venture Mfg Co supplied your landing gear setup. You can look at their site and hopefully find your information.
