Winnebago Industries to Purchase Grand Design | RV Business

With little exception, if you're going to buy a new fifth wheel you'll be purchasing it from one of the RV industry's "Big Three" Forest River (BRK) Thor (THO) or Winnebago (WGO)

go to the winnebago factory, and take the factory tour. its the closest thing to an automotive assembly line there is in the rv industry.
take a look at how they are built. winnebago mfg about 85 percent of the parts it uses in the body. impressive.
just my opinion.
not saying the other are not just as good, just saying, im impressed.

Van Tiffin's company is just a tiny startup company at this time, and it's completely separate from his grandfather's Tiffin Industries 25 miles south. I've heard no complaints out of their trailers, etc. at this time, however.

The family does have relationships with many great RV dealerships, but it'll take many, many years before Vanleigh will be a major force in the fifth wheel trailer business.

But Van can really kick a football--as he was the University of Alabama's starting field goal kicker.

They are selling the Vanleighs like crazy at the local dealer. They sold the one I was looking at within a week.

Gobble,Gobble. It is called a monopoly and no matter what you buy it comes full circle back to the same pocket. Most companies that WERE independent have lost their identity and differentiating themselves from the pack is basically non existent. Just look at the exterior color on almost all RV's is tan & brown or white and brown, Yuke!!!

Hope someone will come out and say "enough is enough". Quit coming out with new models and just perfect the ones you have and build em with higher quality. There is only so much you can do with a box!

You are absolutely right. Same comments I've made for years. The problem is that people like bling and don't want to pay for quality. There are many problems that we discuss every day that could be changed easily. Bottom line won't permit it. Build cheaply, sell quickly, wait for warranty to expire and then repeat process when customer comes back looking for something better.
If people bought quality then New Horizon's would be #1. They aren't. Too expensive and too heavy for most rigs. It's a problem that doesn't have an easy answer.

We have the 5th VanLeigh Vilano 365RL produced. We are out of warranty, but I hope that VanLeigh doesn't go down the same road as Grand Design.

We've had ours since Sep of 2015 and after several cracks at fixing things, it's now operating flawlessly. I applaud VanLeigh for their standing behind their product. If you're in the market for a 5th wheel and there is a VL at a dealer near you, take a serious look!
