I wired 4 of my 12v light switches with an LED that stays on when the switch is in the off position. This helps me find the switch in the dark. When the switch is off the LED is on; when the switch is on, the LED turns off. It uses Radio Shack LED part number 276-209. Here are a few pictures: LED Indicator

Maybe I missed it, but where is the current limiting resistor?
Otherwise it is a neet idea

The one in the picture doen't look like one but you can purchase 12 volt LEDs from Radio Shack. Maybe he has one in there or other wise it will be short lived.
On edit: Radio Shack part number listed in his post is a 5mm 12V Red led . If you find the LED too bright, you might want to install a 100 to 400 ohm resister in series with one of the LED leads to dim it a bit. I think this is a great idea with the LED and looks professional as well.

Good idea. Just what I need in my trailer, ...more LEDs at night.

Ray,IN - I'm not showing you post to my wife (no way do I want to "ring the bowl").
Randy The Sly Ol Fox..... the LED has a built in current limiting circuit.

Maybe I'm missing something guys ...
but wouldn't it be both cheaper and easier to simply go to the local auto parts store and buy a 12vt switch with the built-in red light for $1.49 ...??
All I did was remove the bathroom light switch from the wall (2 screws), unplug the two wires from it and then plug the two wires onto the new "lighted" switch and then put the switch back in the wall..
The switch has two male "Spades" or "blades" on the back of it that the wires with the female spades slip over, thus making it easy to change out the switch..
Took less than 10 minutes..
but then again, maybe I am missing something in you guy's conversation. ??
John

John, I don't think you missed anything. You just have an alternate solution. I had the LEDs so I used them and the switches still match all the others in the camper. Now folks have to variations to choose from.

Ah ha ... now I see, you already had the LEDs..
Now I understand why you did it that way.. no since spending money when you already have what you need to do the job..
I would have done the same thing..
thanks for the comeback,
John
