Looking for lite weight 5th ,abt 25 feet to tour CA and the rest of the west coast. We enjoy staying in national parks, forests and state parks. The areolite 27 with the rear living area has caught my eye to this point as all the specs point to be easily towable by a 1/2 ton truck and appears to be in my price range. Haveing a 36 dp I have no idea what i'm getting in to with 5th wheels. I can use all the help I can get.

Thanks
John

If you are limiting yourself to a half ton truck (and wish to remain within specs) you will have to get a tiny 5th wheel. You need to consider not only the towing capacity, but the ability of the half ton to carry the pin weight of the trailer.

One formula to keep in mind, the TRUE towing capacity (not what the dealer or manual says) of any vehicle is: The truck's GCWR minus the weight of the truck when ready to tow.
