When we had electricity run to our property in a small town in Indiana, the above ground poles were across the street. We only had to trench on our property. Duke Energy trenched under the road for us at no cost to us.

I guess I would have just driven thru and taken the line down. Problem solved.

No different that getting hit by lightening in an airplane. As long as the wire is off your vehicle when you step out of it you will be safe... at least from the electricity. This tacit will not make you shovel proof.

I was a contractor in upstate NY and flatlanders ie NYC, Long Island and NJ would come up thinking they could do what they wanted. After all we were a bunch of hicks anyway. They also found out the hard way. No permit , remove it. And a $200 a day fine until it's gone. I've heard it all so I can hear your conversation with him from here. Congrats on new rv, go camping and forget him. There open houses are boring at best. A good old chicken stew is way more fun. Happy Camping. Dave.

I just love watching people who are "their own worst enemies" in action. They provide boundless entertainment. One fool went against the IRS with big signs in front of his house about how they were picking on him. Guess who got the house?

In California the clearances for overhead utilities are governed by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) under General Order (GO) 95. I can't remember the specifics but I believe the minimum clearance over the Center Line of the road runs from 16 to 18 feet depending on the usage.
I don't know if the PUC in other States are the same.
