Greetings

DH and I would really like to go to a campground and talk with people about RV life face to face. Are there any formal ways of doing that? I have no problem just walking up to people and chatting but would like to stay within the parameters of RV customs and manners. Thank you.

Walk around the camp ground, if people are sitting out side wave and say hi. Tell them you have a couple of questions about there rig. 95% of the time they will be more than happy to talk RVing and there rig. More than likely they will take you on a tour and tell you all about it. RV people are for the most part some of the friendliest you find any where.

If you don't already own a RV , have you considered renting and spending a week or two at parks.
As Shela says most RVers are approchable , and some of us ... while talking is what we do best.

Yup, you will find folks more than willing to chat with you. Renting is a great way to get experience.

Every camping outing I go on either I have approached or been approached with any number of questions regarding campers, tow vehicles or even my australian shepard Gracie. I have found folks to always be cordial and willing to share experiences and give helpful info. As others have stated a rental would be a great idea to help you learn the lifestyle and start your journey. Good luck!

As others have said RVers are a friendly bunch. This past weekend we had two different couples stop by our site to talk about our rig. We spent about a half hour with each and we gave the a tour of the inside.

If you are questioning the entire RV thing then I agree you should rent first to see if this is something you really want to do.

Funny you should mention that....we visited a CG this weekend and made the rounds in our convertible. Folks sitting outside would always waive, we waived back and would sometimes make comments about the nice rig they had. One couple asked us to come and look inside. Yes most are very hospitable!!! I know when we have cooked out if I have extra food I often ask a passer by if they are hungry.. Or will offer up a beer, or coffee..... especially to neighbors on a walk. Very approachable. Have fun with it...

Welcome to the forum.

As mentioned, you should be well received by 99% of the folks you might approach. As for CG "norms"... I would just make sure that you approach folks who are already outside their rigs and return your wave. Knocking on doors to talk to people might not be as well received.

Many campgrounds now have "cabins" too. You might rent one for a few days and as you've already been told, most will be happy to talk to you. Think about it. Most folks you meet in a campground or RV park are either on vacation or retired. They're probably in a good mood.

Jay makes a great point!

Renting a cabin at a CG would really give the best opportunity to spend time in the environment and get a real taste of what it's like.

He's also right about most folks being at CGs being in a good mood.

IMO, that is because they are where they want to be and they're doing what they want to be doing. We lived on Maui for 7 months and it was pretty much the same thing.

If you see us - walk the other way, unless you would like to be offered a cold brew or beverage of choice, have some time to kill and want to hear everything there is to know about our Bounder. Annie says I am unsafe for strangers to approach. She claims I talk their arms off, but I don't recall seeing anyone leave our site with fewer arms than they arrived with. I have seen them leave with a magazine - perhaps a little food or drink etc. Some of us are open - some of us are not. There are two times to definitely not approach. 1) when they are arriving and setting up and 2) when preparing to depart. Lots of little things to do and pay attention to. Other than that you should be clear to approach - unless of course Annie has a rolling-pin in her hand. In that case stop and assess - is she making a pie - or heading toward that guy sitting there like he owns the world??
