Montana 3730FL front window

We have a chip in our front window. It’s only about the size of a dime. Has anyone had a chip repaired, like from Safelite or someone that repairs those kinds of chips?

I am sure any good shop that repairs windshields could fix it.

Is it laminated glass like a auto windshield (i.e. dual layered)? If yes, then many times its repairable depending on the extent...If its single pane tempered glass then no.

I would be surprised if they put tempered glass in there but anything is possible. I think if it was tempered it would have shattered before it chipped, again I am probably wrong about that.

Perhaps there are some markings etched into it if it is an automotive style type safety glass like all windshields have?

It's a dual pane glass, just like a windshield in your vehicle. The chip is in only the outside glass, it didn't break the inside pane. I think it can be repaired just like a car windshield. My insurance company says they won't pay for the repair, however, they will pay for a replacement, but I'd have to pay the deductible!
I think I might try a DIY repair.

I thought about it when I bought this rig. That is a really big window, in the front. It's just a matter of time until a rock finds it. I wish there was a cover for it when we tow.

I would think a glass company (windshield) would only charge about $65. That being said I have had good luck with the permatex repair kit, (bullseye I think they call it)

Find a boat top maker in your town. They can make you a snap down cover for towing. Something with a fiber backing so it wont scratch the window and will cushion the blow from a rock.

That's a good idea.

I think that's what I'm going to try, a DIY repair. It's just a dime sized chip.

It will be a privacy cover and a good thermal barrier too.

I know the window is headily tinted but have you had it pointed directly in the sun and sat behind it yet. Its a really cool idea but I wonder about the sun heating affect.

You can look at this as a start. Not sure if it will protect against rocks but check it out. It shows you can leave it on while traveling.
